Channel Shape Patents (Class 428/358)
  • Patent number: 5514432
Abstract: A hollow profile (1) that can be used as a spacer for insulating glass panes, consists of a metal strip with a U-shaped cross section that forms, with its crosspiece (6), outside wall (2) and, with its side parts (8, 10), folded over inward, side walls (4) of the hollow profile (1). The inside wall (3) of the hollow profile (1) is formed by the crosspiece (15) of a plastic strip with a hat-shaped cross section. The plastic strip has side parts (17) which are secured, with edges (18) folded over outward, on side walls (4) by clamping them in the space between side parts (8) and inward-folded edges (10) of the metal strip. The hollow profile can be produced continuously by a roll shaping process from a metal strip and from a plastic strip.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for coating the interior surface of a cylinder with a uniform, relatively thick layer of a polymeric material. The method includes the steps of dispersing a particulate polymeric material into the interior cavity of a cylinder. Any openings in the cylinder are then closed. The cylinder is then subjected to rotational movement while at the same time subjecting the cylinder to oscillation in a vertical plane. The polymeric material is then heated to a temperature above the melting point of the polymeric material, and maintained at that temperature for a time sufficient to coat the polymeric material onto the interior surface of the cylinder. The rotation and oscillation of the cylinder is then halted and the polymeric material is cooled.

Abstract: An automobile glass pane prepared for adhesive bonding to the fastening flange of a window frame comprises a profiled spacer having a web aligned approximately perpendicular to the glass pane. Adjacent the web is a bead of a plastic adhesive having a high adhesion with respect to the spacer and with respect to the fastening flange. The bead of plastic adhesive, moreover, is of relatively high shear strength and is arranged on the side directed towards the border of the pane. Arranged on the other side of the web is a bead of a reaction adhesive composition. This web has a height corresponding to the minimum distance of the glass pane from the fastening flange. The bead of plastic adhesive serves to fix the glass pane in its installed position during the hardening phase of the reaction adhesive composition.

  • Patent number: 5387456
Abstract: There is provided a method for producing extruded, optical-quality, transparent panel units having integral flange members for joining to adjacent, similar panel units. The method includes the steps of extruding a substantially flat strip of suitable plastic material, calendering the extruded strip by pulling it in the still hot, pliable state through a calender, at least the central portion of the strip being smoothened to an optical-quality transparency and the marginal portions of the strip being provided with at least one sawtooth-like, continuous projection on at least one face of the marginal portions, controllably heating the strip at a limited zone on the one face to render the zone pliable, using bending rolls to bend the marginal portions at substantially a right angle, so as to turn them into flange members, the inside corners formed by the bending rolls between the central portion and the marginal portions being rounded, and finally, cutting the flanged panels to required length.

  • Patent number: 5376424
Abstract: A thermal insulating material is packed in a sealing bag composed of an obverse face material and a reverse face material, wherein each of the obverse face material and reverse face material is preferably made of a metal foil having a thickness in the range of 3 to 50 micrometers and which is sandwiched by a sealant layer of plastic film adhesively affixed to one side thereof and by a surface layer of plastic film adhesively affixed to the other side thereof (hereinafter termed a metal foil composite plastic film), and then a similarly constructed metal foil composite plastic film, or preferably one having a number of holes therein, is stuck on the outer surface or inner surface of the obverse face material, to thus obtain a vacuum thermal insulating panel. The vacuum thermal insulating panel thus obtained can prevent permeation of gas from the outside, reflect heat, and prevent heat conduction along the outer surface.

  • Patent number: 5360649
Abstract: A thickness-reduced deep-draw-formed can obtained by using, as the substrate, a cold-rolled steel plate having a carbon content in the steel of 0.02 to 0.15% by weight, a manganese content in the steel of 0.2 to 1.0% by weight, a mean diameter of crystal grain of smaller than 6.0 .mu.m, a tensile strength over a range of from 35 to 55 kg/mm.sup.2, and a thickness of 0.17 to 0.30 mm in a step of subjecting an organic resin-coated structure of the surface-treated steel plate to the thickness-reducing deep-draw forming. This makes it possible to suppress the generation and accumulation of heat in the organic resin-coated steel plate to a level lower than the conventional levels. Therefore, the organic resin coating is prevented from being peeled off or damaged and, as a result, the corrosion resistance can be markedly improved.

  • Patent number: 5354617
Abstract: The invention is to a non-woven fabric sheet for a storage battery separator. The sheet has an excellent property of holding electrolyte by using conjugate fibers having a specific sectional form. The sheet comprises an ethylene copolymer having a specific structure which can introduce a desirable amount of sulfo groups efficiently under mild reaction conditions. Conjugate fibers having a split sectional form include a first component and a second component having a radial arrangement. The conjugate fibers are obtained by forming an ethylene based random copolymer containing a unit represented by a formula --CH.sub.2 CH(COOH)--, with polypropylene. Subsequently, a non-woven fabric sheet of a thermally bonding type is obtained by mixing the conjugate fibers with polypropoylene fibers. Subsequently, a non-woven fabric sheet for a storage battery separator is obtained by sulfonating the non-woven fabric sheet using gas such as SO.sub.3 to form a unit of the formula --CH.sub.2 C(SO.sub.3 H)(COOH)--.
