  • Patent number: 8247050
Abstract: Metal-coated polymer articles containing structural substantially porosity-free, fine-grained and/or amorphous metallic coatings/layers optionally containing solid particulates dispersed therein on polymer substrates, are disclosed. The substantially porosity-free metallic coatings/layers/patches are applied to polymer or polymer composite substrates to provide, enhance or restore vacuum/pressure integrity and fluid sealing functions. Due to the excellent adhesion between the metallic coating and the polymer article satisfactory thermal cycling performance is achieved. The invention can also be employed as a repair/refurbishment technique. The fine-grained and/or amorphous metallic coatings are particularly suited for strong and lightweight articles, precision molds, sporting goods, aerospace and automotive parts and other components exposed to thermal cycling and stress created by erosion and impact damage.

  • Patent number: 7909177
Abstract: A braid-reinforced composite hollow fiber membrane is disclosed. The braid-reinforced composite hollow fiber membrane comprising a reinforcing material of a tubular braid and a polymer resinous thin film coated on the surface of the tubular braid is characterized in that: the tubular braid comprises multifilaments made of monofilaments having a fineness of 0.01 to 0.4 denier, and the peeling strength of the tubular braid and a polymer resinous thin film coated on the surface thereof is 1 to 10 MPa. In the composite hollow fiber membrane, the fineness of the mono filaments constituting the tubular braid of the reinforcing material is small, that is, 0.01 to 0.4 denier, thus the surface area of the tubular braid contacted with the polymer resinous thin film is increased.

  • Patent number: 7897223
Abstract: A pallet container includes a bottom pallet, a lattice frame, and a multilayer inner container made of thermoplastic material by a blow-molding technique and received in the lattice frame, for storing and transporting liquid fill material. The inner container has an exterior layer which is configured to be incapable of permanently retaining an electrostatic charge by allowing electric charges to be drained. The exterior layer contains an antistatic compound and has a layer thickness which does not or only insubstantially change a transparency or translucency of the exterior layer, allowing easy optical detection of a fill level of the liquid fill material in the container. The exterior layer includes a fusible, easily stretchable thermoplastic material (polymer). At least one of a center layer and an interior layer of the multilayer container includes a cold-impact-resistant HDPE material (High Density Polyethylene) with a high molecular weight.

Abstract: A system and method for forming thermoplastic-carbon fiber composite tubing is described. A non-continuous thermoplastic-carbon fiber composite sleeve capable of being formed into a tubular product, a method for forming a tubular product, and a tubular product fabricated from thermoplastic-carbon fiber composite is described. The sleeve may include at least one non-continuous thermoplastic fiber strand that may be interwoven with at least one carbon fiber. The method may include the steps of weaving the material into at least one sleeve to be processed, positioning a bladder within the sleeve to create a work piece, and placing the work piece in a mold. The mold may be heated and the bladder may be pressurized to form a tubular product. The resulting tubular product may be fabricated from thermoplastic carbon fiber composite with improved physical properties.

  • Patent number: 7867589
Abstract: A lightweight, high-pressure cryogenic tank construction includes an inner layer comprising a matrix of fiber and resin suitable for cryogenic use. An outer layer in intimate contact with the inner layer provides support of the inner layer, and is made of resin composite. The tank is made by placing a fiber preform on a mandrel and infusing the preform with the resin. The infused preform is then encapsulated within the outer layer.
