Abstract: A tail for adhering the tailing edge of a first roll of tape that is being fed to an application device to the leading edge of a second roll of tape without stopping the tapes includes a bulge which is located in the tail and has an adhesive coating on each side. A first protective element located on the tail releasably covers the adhesive coating on one side of the bulge and a second protective element located on the other side of the bulge releasably covers the adhesive coating on the other side of the bulge when the tail is wrapped onto a roll base. The leading edge of the second roll of tape is wrapped around the tape from the first roll to form a loose knot and then is threaded through a pair of pincher rollers through which the first roll of tape is fed. Thus, when the bulge passes through the pincher rollers it becomes adhesively attached to the leading edge of the second roll and the knot is tightened around the second roll and a mechanical joint is formed between the tapes.

Abstract: A flexible wrap (10) for enclosing a cable splice (20) without external heating comprises a gel layer (1) and a support layer (2), the wrap having sufficient flexibility to be manually gathered into wrinkles around the smaller parts of the cable-to-splice transition with the gel sealing the resulting enclosure. The support layer (2), which is preferably made of low density polyethylene, provides mechanical strength and facilitates the application of the wrap (10). A vapour barrier layer (3), preferably made of aluminium, may be applied on the support layer (2). A protective layer (4) may be applied on the vapour barrier layer (3). An adhesion-reducing substance (6) may be applied on at least part of the side of the gel layer (1) facing away from the support layer (2) to allow adjustment of the wrap (10) when applied on the cable splice (20). Elastic or rubber tape (11) may be wound around the applied wrap (10) to compress the gel. A re-enterable closure having a long sealing length is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6660354
Abstract: The present invention provides a release material formed by irradiating a release material precursor having a shear storage modulus of about 1×102 to about 3×106 Pa at 20° C. and a frequency of 1 Hz, wherein the release material has a contact angle of 15° or more, measured using a mixed solution of methanol and water (volume ratio: 90/10) having a wet tension of 25.4 mN/m. The release material of the present invention has improved anchoring to certain substrates, ensuring relatively low release strength from certain pressure-sensitive adhesives, particularly even after the exposure to a high temperature. Thus, the release materials are capable of allowing the pressure-sensitive adhesive to maintain stable residual adhesion strength.

Abstract: A multi-layer sheet has individual staggered edge posting sheetlets in a side-by-side relationship. The multi-layer sheet comprises a base release sheet, the posting sheetlets in a flat sheet form, and a removable cover sheet. The posting sheetlets are loosely held together in a manner whereby an individual posting sheetlet is easily removed and used as a base. Each posting sheetlet in the multi-layer sheet has a paper substrate with an adhesive partially covering each face thereof in approximate aligned areas of the respective faces. A front face or a back face of the individual posting sheetlet is adhered to a surface while an opposed face holds an item for posting. In use, an individual posting sheetlet is readily removed from the multi-layer sheet and a cover panel removed from the posting sheetlet to fully expose the front face and the back face of the individual posting sheetlet.
