Abstract: A sleeve and method for making the same for use in packaging consumer goods comprising a plastic film having a first longitudinal edge and a second longitudinal edge is disclosed. The plastic film is rolled into a tube wherein the first longitudinal edge overlaps the second longitudinal edge defining a flap. A plurality of seaming beads are applied along the first longitudinal edge to seam the first longitudinal edge to the second longitudinal edge, the plurality of seaming beads including an inner seaming bead and an outer seaming bead to form a plurality of seams in the sleeve. In exemplary embodiments, the plurality of seaming beads are utilized with different adhesive solutions. Other embodiments include, but are not limited to a perforation strip between the at least two seaming solutions.

Abstract: A system comprising a linerless pressure sensitive label stock and a printer for printing on linerless pressure sensitive label stock exhibit reduced tendency for exposed adhesive to stick to printer components. The linerless pressure sensitive label stock has a plurality of regions that are substantially non-tacky formed along the length of the label stock web. In one embodiment, the non-tacky regions are formed by printing an adhesive deadening agent over the pressure sensitive adhesive. In another embodiment, the adhesive is printed in a pattern having non-tacky regions. Optional perforations in the non-tacky regions aid separation of printed regions from the rest of the web. Various means of web position sensing allow the printer to track the positions of the substantially non-tacky regions. After printing, the web of linerless pressure sensitive label stock is moved to positions where it is unlikely to stick to printer components.

Abstract: The zone of weakening, which is designed as a slot (6a), is bordered by film material (7) on both sides according to length, i.e., across the direction of loading, which is indicated by the arrows F. Tearing (8) which progresses from the edge because of microscopic damage comes to a standstill at the slot (6a) at the latest, because stress peaks are dissipated here and the locally increased stresses are diverted into elements of the film material (7) which are under less stress. Other embodiments include a locally interrupted adhesive layer for separation of an upper film layer from a lower film layer, these two film layers being otherwise glued together. The adhesive-free recesses here constitute zones of weakening in the sense of the present invention. This therefore prevents tears from spreading from one film layer to the next. Furthermore, the propagation of tearing is counteracted due to the dissipation of stresses when a tear that forms in the film layer reaches the zone of weakening.

Abstract: In single-wall corrugated paperboard comprising corrugating medium joined on both sides to two liners and a tear line along which the corrugated paperboard can be torn open, the two liners are severed directly opposite each other, whilst the corrugating medium has no incision, or merely in the region of of the flute peaks, the tear line being configured straight or curved. This system results in the structural integrity of the corrugated paperboard being hardly detrimented. In the tearing open action the cut liners act as knife edges which cleanly sever the corrugating medium at the defined locations, producing neat cut edges of pleasing visual appeal.

Abstract: A package, which allows for butchering and packaging of fresh red meat at a centralized facility is provided which includes an impermeable tray supporting the product, a first film sealed to the tray for enclosing the product, a channel defined within the first film for exchanging gases into and out of the package, and a second impermeable film enclosing the first film, such that removal of the impermeable film provides for the exchange of gases into and out of the package. The channel for exchanging of gases may be perforations defined within the first film, a second highly permeable film sealed to the first film, or an enlarged opening formed within the first film, which is enclosed with a patch following adequate gas exchange at retail. Such gas exchange is required to release any low oxygen atmosphere and allow for the introduction of oxygen to the packaged meat product. The channel for exchanging gases having a gas transmission rate of at least about 50,000 cc/m2/24 hrs./atm. at 73° F.

  • Patent number: 7115314
Abstract: A web of print media dispensable as individual sheets along lines of perforation includes a pattern of ties and slits that provide a more predictable resistance to manually separating the sheets from the web. The lines of perforation extend transversely with respect to a longitudinal dimension of the web and cross a longitudinal centerline between two edges of the web. The ties are weaker near the centerline of the web than near either of the two edges sufficient to relatively increase resistance to tearing along the lines of perforation starting near either of the two edges while relatively decreasing resistance to tearing along the same lines of perforation starting near the centerline of the web.
