Patent number: 5385781Abstract: This invention relates to a multilayer thermoformable structure comprising (A) at least one cap layer and (B) at least one core layer, and polymer compositions for making the same. The multilayer structures and polymer compositions of the invention are useful in preparing thermoformed articles and are particularly useful in preparing liners for refrigerators and freezers. The multilayer structures and the polymer composition have good thermoformability and chemical resistance. The multilayer structures and the polymer composition have good surface properties including a glossy finish. Further these materials are compatible with new blowing agents, such as the hydrochlorofluorocarbons and hydrofluorocarbon blowing agents, which are more environmentally friendly. The layers of the multilayer structure do not require a glue layer.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1993Date of Patent: January 31, 1995Assignee: Ferro CorporationInventors: Deenadayalu Chundury, Anthony S. Patent number: 5382472Abstract: The invention is a flexible packaging material having a narrow band of pressure sensitive adhesive beneath a heatsealable surface layer. When the material is formed into a package, a heatseal is formed along the band of pressure sensitive adhesive. When the heatseal is opened, the pressure sensitive adhesive becomes exposed at the surface of the seal, which enables the package to be resealed by manual pressure alone. A particular advantage of the invention is that the pressure sensitive adhesive is present only in the narrow band, where it is needed to form the resealable seal. The packaging material is made by side-by-side coextrusion.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1992Date of Patent: January 17, 1995Assignee: James River Paper Company, Inc.Inventors: Apostol Yanidis, Bruce Sanderford

Patent number: 5364695Abstract: A trilayer thermoplastic film and method of making the same composed of an outer layer, a core layer, and an inner layer. The outer layer is made essentially from a mixture of high density polyethylenes, inorganic lamellar filler, and polycaprolactone. The incorporation of polycaprolactone into the outer layer gives the invention its primary advantage since the polycaprolactone gives the outer surface of the envelope the ability to bond with standard adhesives found in the gum on the back of postage stamps and address labels. The core layer is composed essentially of low density polyethylenes and inorganic lamellar filler. The inner layer is composed essentially of high density polyethylenes and inorganic lamellar filler.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1990Date of Patent: November 15, 1994Inventor: Richard M. Gurewitz
