  • Patent number: 8852704
Abstract: A X-Y plane is a plane parallel to abutting surfaces on which a joining portion is formed, and a Z direction is a direction perpendicular to the X-Y plane. A sealing member is held between the outer circumference side of a guide provided on a lid body and the inner circumference side of a rib provided on a case, and is pressed in a direction parallel to the X-Y plane. Laser light is scanned on the inner circumference side with respect to a ring-shaped pressurization jig with a stopper pressurized by the pressurization jig, so the pressurization jig does not break the path of the laser light. This expands the range of options in the material for the pressurization jig, which enables an easy-maintenance jig to be used, improving productivity.

Abstract: A composite reinforcement component for an aircraft or spacecraft, including a first element assembly aligned in a first extension plane, and a second element assembly aligned in a second, perpendicular, extension plane, the second element assembly intersecting the first element assembly at an intersection of the first and second extension planes. The first and second element assembly each have a pair of staggered comb components. Each comb component includes a base and a plurality of rectangular protrusions extending coplanar from the extension planes of the respective element assembly. The rectangular protrusions form comb teeth of one comb component which are overlapping with comb teeth of the other comb component of the pairs of comb components. The comb teeth of the first element assembly are offset along the intersection by a single comb tooth width with respect to the comb teeth of the second element assembly.

  • Publication number: 20140272243
Abstract: Linking parts are formed on one end of a first resin composite member and on one end of a second resin composite member in order to bond the ends together. For example, the linking parts may be wavy parts containing concave portions and convex portions. In this case, the wavy parts initially are heated and softened. Then, in a molding unit, respective pairs of confronting convex portions are overlapped with each other, and respective pairs of confronting concave portions are utilized to form a non-overlapping space. The overlapped convex portions are pressed and crushed, such that a base thermoplastic resin and fibers contained therein flow toward the non-overlapping space. Thereafter, the thermoplastic resin is cooled and hardened, whereby the first resin composite member and the second resin composite member are bonded integrally to obtain a resin composite structure.

  • Patent number: 8802212
Abstract: A microwave processing device/system can create strong temperature gradients in biodegradable polymer material. Novel physical phenomena caused by the heated particles cause local changes in viscosity and flow, leading to high mass transport and current densities in activated polymer matrix materials and to dramatically shorter reaction times and solvent-free reaction conditions. Advancements in the process speed and quality of packaging films in general can be achieved by increasing the polymeric amorphous to crystalline ratio, especially with regard to the claimed methods for manufacturing and sealing biodegradable packaging films. Micron-size particles or nanoparticles in the processed materials can interact with microwaves of different frequencies and intensities to create intentionally varied local material property changes to create an tunable flexible packaging product that is sustainable and “green.” Related systems, apparatus, methods, and/or articles are also described.

  • Patent number: 8801880
Abstract: The invention relates to ultrasonic gap welding of flat woven fabrics. Specifically, the invention relates to a method of ultrasonic welding the seam termination yarn ends of a fabric using a controlled gap. A mechanical stop may be employed to control the distance or gap between the horn and anvil to a predetermined level based on the depth of welding and amount of weld energy. By adding another degree of control, the ultrasonic gap welding technique of the present invention is able to achieve fabric seams that are stronger than conventional seams, and even those enhanced with gluing, and is conducive to formation of fabric seams by spot welding or along the termination yarn ends of the fabric.
