Patent number: 7858204Abstract: A wire (10) for use in a brazing or soldering operation has an elongated body (12) of a metallic material. The elongated body (12) has an outer surface (18). A channel (14) is formed along a length of the body. The channel (14) has an opening (A1). A flux solution (22) is deposited within the channel (14) and along the length of the body. The flux solution (22) covers a portion of the outer surface (18). A portion of the flux solution (22) is exposed through the opening (A1) in the channel (14).Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2007Date of Patent: December 28, 2010Assignee: Bellman-Melcor Development, LLCInventors: Steven Campbell, John Scott

Patent number: 6773823Abstract: By utilizing the sequential synthesis afforded reverse micelles, nanocomposite materials can be synthesized which have a diamagnetic core surrounded by a thin shell of ferromagnetic material passivated with a second shell of a diamagnet. Using gold as the diamagnetic material and iron as the ferromagnetic material, nanocomposites can be synthesized where there is a thin layer of the magnetic material, which is passivated and protected from oxidation. In this case, all of the spins of the magnetic layer lie within the surface of the particle.Type: GrantFiled: April 9, 2001Date of Patent: August 10, 2004Assignee: University of New Orleans Research and Technology Foundation, Inc.Inventors: Charles J. Publication number: 20040091733Abstract: The specification discloses a method for extrusion coating a lightweight web. According to the method, a length of a lightweight web along with a length of a carrier web is fed to an extruder with the lightweight web positioned atop the carrier web. A polymer film is then extruded onto the combined lightweight web and carrier web to provide an extrusion-coated lightweight web. Thereafter, the extrusion-coated lightweight is separated from the carrier web. Also disclosed are extrusion-coated lightweight webs formed according to the method.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 23, 2003Publication date: May 13, 2004Inventor: Gary H. Knauf

Patent number: 6162548Abstract: A cable, in particular for power transmission, for telecommunications or for data transmission, or also combined power/telecommunications cables, wherein at least one coating layer consists of a recyclable material which is halogen-free and has superior mechanical and electrical properties. This material consists of a polymer mixture comprising: (a) a crystalline propylene homopolymer or copolymer; and (b) an elastomeric copolymer of ethylene with at least one alpha-olefin having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms, and optionally with a diene; the said copolymer (b) being characterized by a 200% tension set value (measured at 20.degree. C. for 1 minute according to ASTM standard D 412) lower than 30%.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 1998Date of Patent: December 19, 2000Assignee: Pirelli Cavi e Sistemi S.p.A.Inventors: Luca Castellani, Eduardo Redondo Grizante, Antonio Zaopo, Enrico Albizzati

Patent number: 6093478Abstract: A composite member has a diecast part and a hub part that consists of a harder material than the diecast part. The diecast part is attached to the hub part by diecasting within a diecast mold. The hub part has at least one end face. The at least one end face has an annular sealing projection that, during diecasting of the diecast part, rests at a surface of the diecast mold and is deformed by the diecast mold.Type: GrantFiled: April 18, 1997Date of Patent: July 25, 2000Assignees: Firma Ford-Werke AG, Firma Druckgusswerk Mossner GmbHInventors: Arthur Jasinetzky, Hans-Peter Wirtz

Patent number: 5124214Abstract: A billet is provided for subsequent heating and working into a finished product in, for example, a rolling mill. The billet comprises a mass of swarf jacketed in a tubular jacket. At least one end of the jacket is joined to an end piece which surrounds the end of the mass of swarf. The end piece and the jacket are materials of different composition. In particular, a jacket of stainless steel with mild steel end pieces at each end is envisaged. The end pieces may be open ended sleeves or caps. Where an open ended sleeve is used it may be closed by crimping its end or by the provision of an insert which is welded or crimped into the sleeve. The end of the swarf exposed in the sleeve may also be sealed by application of a graphite paste.Type: GrantFiled: September 21, 1990Date of Patent: June 23, 1992Assignee: Camborne Industries PLCInventor: Antonino G. Patent number: 4515610Abstract: A method of making an orificed discharge wall for supplying a plurality of streams of molten inorganic material to be attenuated into filaments comprising inserting elements in apertures in a member; sealing said elements and member within a coating adapted to isostatically transmit pressure to said assembly; applying isostatic pressure to the hermetically sealed elements and member to mechanically seal the elements to the member; and heating the mechanically sealed elements and member to fuse the elements to the member to prevent the unwanted passage of molten glass between said elements and said member, said elements having an orifice to permit the passage of molten glass therethrough to establish said streams.Type: GrantFiled: December 19, 1983Date of Patent: May 7, 1985Assignee: Owens-Corning Fiberglas CorporationInventor: Mohinder S. Patent number: 4190559Abstract: A catalyst support comprises a stack of metal strips, said strips being coated with a catalyst material. Indentations in the strips maintain uniform spacing between the strips, so that gas can flow between the strips. The indentations are spaced so that the indentations in adjacent strips cannot coincide and nest together, so that adjacent strips cannot collapse together.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1978Date of Patent: February 26, 1980Assignee: Oxy-Catalyst, Inc.Inventor: William B.
