With Particles Patents (Class 428/87)
  • Patent number: 4181762
Abstract: Fibers, yarns and fabrics are produced from polymers, such as the copolymers of ethylene and vinyl acetate, having an elastic modulus of from 5,000 to 60,000 psi. The fibers are also characterized by an area moment of inertia of from 400.times.10.sup.-14 to 7,000.times.10.sup.-14 in.sup.4 and a stiffness parameter of from 1.times.10.sup.-5 to 1.times.10.sup.-8 lb-in.sup.2. Multiple fibers are spun into yarn, preferably cross-linked either chemically or by irradiation and are formed into pile fabrics for carpeting and similar uses. The pile fabric preferably has a minimum of 4,000 fibers per in.sup.2 of backing and a minimum pile height of 1/8 inch.

  • Patent number: 4103053
Abstract: A pressure sensitive laminate and method of making same for effecting an image transfer and attachment which includes a carrier layer having releasably bonded thereto a coloring pigment or dye, and a complementary adhesively backed laminate which is normally maintained in spaced relationship by a spacer interposed between the carrier and covering layers whereby the transfer is effected by applying a predetermined pressure for bringing the adhesive backed layer into intimate contact with the releasable pigment of the carrier layer in the area of applied pressure only. Upon stripping the covering layer from the carrier layer with the pigment adhered thereto along the area of intimate contact, the covering layer can be readily applied to a given surface.

  • Patent number: 4044179
Abstract: A playing surface for athletic games, such as tennis, comprising a flat, firm subsurface, a pile fabric disposed on the subsurface comprising a relatively flexible, moisture-impermeable backing and normally generally upstanding pile elements resembling grass, a compacted layer of granular mineral material disposed among the pile elements on the backing to a depth from about 75% to substantially equal to the length of the pile elements, the mineral layer comprising less than 10% clay and further comprising a quantity of moisture retaining material sufficient to maintain the moisture content of the mineral layer above about 3% by weight under normal climatic conditions.

  • Patent number: 4035532
Abstract: A process for producing a flocked fabric laminate by coating an auxiliary substrate with a temporary adhesive binder, flocking the coated auxiliary substrate with flock fibers, coating the flock fibers with a curable flock adhesive binder, marrying a substrate backing layer to the binder coated flock, permanently setting the flock adhesive binder, and then removing the auxiliary substrate from the fabric laminate whereby the flock remains secured to the substrate backing layer is disclosed. Flocked fabric laminates obtained by such method are also described.

  • Patent number: 4034134
Abstract: A process for producing a laminate by coating a continuous first layer of a film forming material onto a release sheet, distributing flock fibers uniformly onto the first layer, drying the first layer to form a film and secure the flock fibers thereto in a substantially upstanding position, coating the tips of the flock fibers with a flock adhesive, marrying the flocked film to a substrate backing layer such that the coated tips contact the said substrate layer, permanently setting the flock adhesive, and then removing the release sheet. Laminates obtained by such method are also described.

  • Patent number: 3995079
Abstract: An artificial turf-like product having a surface which exhibits game playing characteristics approaching those of natural turf is provided by interspersing a layer of non-compacting granular material comprising irregular angular particles having a size in the range from 6 to 100 U.S. screen mesh size, preferably from 12 to 50 among the upstanding pile elements of a synthetic pile fabric.

  • Patent number: 3977896
Abstract: Fluidized bed process for coating materials with pyrolytic carbon. A gaseous atmosphere including a carbonaceous substance is flowed upward through a vertical heated enclosure to fluidize a bed of particles therein. An exit conduit extends into the particle bed and a controlled flow of inert gas is fed through the conduit to regulate the exit passage of particles from the bed. Additional particles are added to the bed from above.

  • Patent number: 3969559
Abstract: A novel biconstituent filament, such as multifilament or monofilament yarn or staple fiber, useful for dissipating static electricity from normally static prone textile articles comprising a first constituent substantially adhered lengthwise to a second constituent is provided. The first constituent is made of a synthetic thermoplastic fiber-forming polymer that is virtually non-conductive to electricity. The second constituent is a normally non-conductive synthetic thermoplastic fiber-forming polymer rendered electrically conductive by having dispersed uniformly throughout a sufficient quantity of electrically conductive carbon black to provide an electrical resistance of less than 1 .times. 10.sup.10 ohms per centimeter for each filament at a direct current potential of 0.1 volt as measured at 20% relative humidity and 21.degree.C. The cross sectional area of the second constituent comprises from about 1 to 30 percent of the cross sectional area of the whole filament.
