Poison Holders Patents (Class 43/131)
  • Patent number: 8701336
Abstract: An improved pest control device having a bottom, two side walls, two end walls with holes therethrough to permit an animal to enter, and a lid, with a bait holder inside the trap, which may optionally be raised off of the floor of the trap and magnets positioned near the top edge of at least two of the walls to secure the trap to a dumpster, thereby holding the lid in the closed position when the trap is secured to the dumpster to prevent access to the bait other than through the holes in the end walls.

  • Publication number: 20140101985
Abstract: The present invention relates generally to polymer devices impregnated with semiochemical attractants for termites. The materials for delivering the semiochemicals are preferably cellulose-free. Devices of the subject invention are placed in soil and provide a slow-release and permeation of the semiochemicals into the adjacent soil so that termites tunneling in the vicinity are directed toward the chemical sources. Because the semiochemicals are impregnated in the polymer, the device also protects the semiochemicals so that they do not degrade rapidly under field conditions. In a preferred embodiment, the subject invention comprises a durable station housing, preferably with a removable bait, wherein the body of the station housing itself is impregnated with a semiochemical attractant.

  • Publication number: 20140026468
Abstract: A biological control is disclosed for termites, including subterranean termites such as C. formosanus, comprising a mixture of a chitin synthesis inhibitor such as lufenuron with a pathogen or opportunistic pathogen. The combination greatly enhances the effectiveness above that of the individual components. For example, P. aeruginosa is commonly found in association with termites, but it is not normally harmful to termites. However, in the presence of lufenuron, P. aeruginosa becomes an opportunistic pathogen that kills termites. As another example, B. thuringiensis, which otherwise has shown only limited effectiveness against termites, has greatly enhanced lethality in combination with lufenuron. In another aspect a termite toxicant is administered to termites in a clay-based bait. Clay acts as an attractant for subterranean termites such as C. formosanus, and a clay bait can increase a colony's consumption of a toxicant.

Abstract: A kit of termite detector units may be used by a homeowner or a business owner in a commercial environment to form an effective protective barrier or boundary around the property with the “X”s illustrating typical placement positions detector units. The units are placed in locations where termites might be anticipated and typically the units can be placed at two to five meter spacings, although in some cases they may be spaced even further apart. This is because these units are on a large concrete area and they are placed at construction joints since the termites are more likely to travel along the joint as the line of least resistance they will be intercepted by the detector. Bait units may then be applied to infested detectors in an effort to kill the termite colony.

Abstract: The invention is a baiting station for rodents. The baiting station comprises a housing, a lid, and a partition. The partition is transitional between two positions corresponding to two different modes of use of the baiting station. In the first position, the partition divides the internal space of the housing into a tunnel accessible by a rodent and an enclosed bait compartment that is inaccessible while the lid is closed. In the second position, the partition either lays flat with the bottom wall of the housing or is removed from the housing, thus allowing for placement of mechanical or glue traps within the housing.

Abstract: A barrier that deters slugs and snails from foliage considered a mollusk food source. The barrier is recycled plastic and manufacturable in multiple lengths and depths. The barrier top-edge length has an inverted “u” shaped chamber serving as the dry staging area (“Chamber”) for the slug and snail deterrent. The entire underside width and length of the Chamber is spanned by mesh (“Mesh”) The Chamber minimizes exposing the deterrent to watering and rainfall moisture. The Chamber can stage a variety of deterrents and baits. The inventor recommends rock salt be the deterrent; the Chamber substantially reduces sodium chloride leaching into the soil. Slugs and snails must navigate the Chamber and Mesh to enter the protected area becoming exposed to rock salt.; the sodium chloride causes water to leave the mollusk body owing to osmosis and leads to complete dehydration.

Abstract: Systems, devices, apparatus and methods of attracting and capturing flies with toxicant treated darkened cords and printed or painted strips on sidewalls of housings. The darkened cords and strips black to confuse flies into believing they are cracks and crevices. Flies feed off the insecticide treated strips and are killed over time. At least one black line over a blue background can simulate a harborage to attract flying insects. At least one black line over a sticky surface card can be used. Geometrical housing shapes can include triangular, pentagon, cylindrical, rectangular, square, cube and/or other geometrical shapes. Housings can be tied off to be suspended. Second housings can be suspended beneath a main housing by attaching strips to the lower suspended housing. The housings can also work in an unassembled state where planar type sheets can be mounted on a wall.

  • Patent number: 8407933
Abstract: In an above-ground termite station for detecting and controlling termites above ground in an operating configuration of the termite station, a container of the termite station defines an interior space and is at least in part configured for abutting against and being mounted on an above-ground mounting surface. The container is configurable between a closed configuration and an open configuration in which the interior space of the container is accessible while the container is mounted on the mounting surface. A cartridge is sized and configured for insertion in and removal from the interior space of the container and is generally an aggregation member, a bait matrix separate from the aggregation member, and a holder at least in part holding the aggregation member and bait matrix in assembly with the holder for positioning of the cartridge relative to the interior space of the container as a single unit.

Abstract: The present invention concerns methods for controlling insect infestation via RNAi-mediated gene silencing, whereby the intact insect cell(s) are contacted with a double-stranded RNA from outside the insect cell(s) and whereby the double-stranded RNA is taken up by the intact insect cell(s). In one particular embodiment, the methods of the invention are used to alleviate plants from insect pests. Alternatively, the methods are used for treating and/or preventing insect infestation on a substrate or a subject in need of such treatment and/or prevention. Suitable insect target genes and fragments thereof, dsRNA constructs, recombinant constructs and compositions are disclosed.

Abstract: A rodent management system includes a housing having a base and a lid together at least in part defining an interior space of the housing. The lid is positionable relative to the base between a closed configuration of the station in which the interior space in substantially enclosed, and an opened configuration of the station in which the interior space is accessible for servicing. The housing has at least one entry opening through which rodents enter the interior space of the housing. The base has an inner surface at least in part defining an interior floor of the housing. A bait support is positionable within the interior space of the housing and configured for supporting bait above the floor of the housing. The bait support is further configured for releasable connection with at least one of the base and the lid.

Abstract: A rodent management station includes a housing having a base and a lid together at least in part defining an interior space. The housing has an entry opening and an internal partition structure configured to partition the interior space of the housing into a bait chamber having an entryway spaced from the entry opening. A pathway is defined at least in part by the partition structure and extends away from the at least one entry opening to the entryway of the bait chamber. The partition structure has at least one through-opening therein other than at the bait chamber entryway to provide open communication between the pathway and the bait chamber other than at the bait chamber entryway. The at least one through-opening is sized substantially smaller than the housing entry opening and the bait chamber entryway to inhibit rodents against entering the bait chamber at the at least one through-opening.

  • Publication number: 20130047496
Abstract: A system and method of monitoring and controlling subterranean above-ground foraging pests in a predetermined location provides for the use of a hollow body having an open top and an open bottom. A plurality of supporting legs extends downwardly from a bottom edge of the hollow body. Once embedded into the soil, the legs allow the bottom edge to be at ground level. A substance attractive to the pests as a food source is deposited directly on the ground within the cavity defined by the hollow body. A lid is locked to the open top and the system is monitored for a pre-determined period of time. If consumption of the food material is detected, it is substituted with a bait material containing poisonous substance. The pests consume the bait and carry the poison to the subterranean location.
