Abstract: A secondary, preferably hook-free fishing lure is disclosed for use in combination with a primary hook-bearing fishing lure. The secondary lure is slidably attached to the fishing line, and moves along the line in an erratic fashion as the primary lure is worked through the water, to further attract fish to the primary lure. The secondary lure comprises one or more attractant elements, such as standard spoons or blades, directly or indirectly attached to a traveler element that slidably engages the fishing line and slides back and forth along the fishing line as the primary lure is moved, worked or jigged through the water.

  • Publication number: 20080202013
Abstract: Method and apparatus for long line fishing and for recreational bait fishing that allows a fish to take a bait without having the hook simultaneously enter the fish's mouth. A fish is hooked by taking a hook-less bait and subsequent to the force exerted by the angler's line pull or the force generated by the fish swimming against a tight line, causes the hook to be drawn from outside the mouth and into the jaw area. The direction of hook set is opposite of conventional fishing given the hook is pulled towards the mouth and not from within the mouth cavity. The method and apparatus for attaching a bait to a line and not to a hook are equally applicable to the commercial long line fishery and the recreational fishery. The method promotes the reduction in bycatch and Bycatch mortality.

  • Patent number: 7356963
Abstract: A fish lure includes a soft, fish-shaped body including forward and aft body segments connected by an integrally-formed vertical hinge. A buoyancy-controlling insert is concealed inside the forward body segment. The vertical hinge includes a pair of vertical grooves that extend from the dorsal surface to the ventral surface of the body, defining a hinge web that attaches the forward body segment to the aft body segment. A pair of front hinge surfaces extend between a side of the forward body segment and the hinge, and a pair of rear hinge surfaces extend between a side of the aft body segment and the hinge. The front hinge surface and the rear hinge surface form a hinge angle between 5 and 20 degrees when at rest. Each front and aft hinge surface is angled aft. Water flow past the hinge angle creates flexing of the body at the hinge.

  • Publication number: 20080078114
Abstract: A fishing lure that has realistic motion when retrieved from a cast is presented. The lure has three sections: a head section, a tail section, and a mid-section. The head and tail sections are formed to resemble the head and tail areas of live bait. The mid-section has a series of segments that are joined by connectors that allow the segments to move back and forth when water impacts on the sidewalls of the segments. The overall shape of the fishing lure in one embodiment is a shad baitfish. Other embodiments include the overall shape of a lizard, a waterdog salamander, a blue gill fish, a goby fish, or a snake or worm.

  • Publication number: 20080000141
Abstract: An apparatus for fish-luring use with a separate fishing line includes a fishing-line-attachable shaft (e.g., a straight length of rigid wire) on which are mounted first and second rotator members. At least the first rotator is mounted rotatably and slideably for rotation and axially movement relative to the second rotator in response to water pressure when the shaft is moved forwardly in a body of water. The interaction of an irregular non-planar rearwardly facing end on the first rotator with an irregular non-planar forwardly facing end on the second rotator produces fish-luring vibrations. In one embodiment, the second rotator is also mounted rotatably and slideably, with the first rotator rotating clockwise, the second rotator rotating counterclockwise, and circumferentially spaced apart protrusions on the rearwardly facing end of the first rotator interacting with circumferentially spaced apart indentations on the forwardly facing end of the second rotator to produce the fish-luring vibrations.

  • Patent number: 7114284
Abstract: A joint type minnow having a body which is formed so as to imitate a bait fish and divided into a main body portion and a tail portion so that the main body portion and the tail portion are mutually swingably joined to each other through a latch structure, is further equipped with a structure for regulating the mutual swing motion between the main body portion and the tail portion. The structure regulates the swing motion of the tail portion at a casting time to reduce air resistance, thereby avoiding reduction in flight distance of the lure.

  • Publication number: 20020189150
Abstract: A bimodal, two-part, weighted lure which exhibits a remarkable simulation of life-form swimming action while being towed through water. Weights inherently disposed within the lure permits casting, jigging and trolling without additional weight being added to a fishing line external to the lure. The lure begins the swimming action immediately upon being displaced from a resting state. A loop whereat fishing line is affixed to steer and tow the lure rotates to be hidden while being towed. Form and action of the lure permits use with spinner bait and buzz bait wire forms. Also, a replaceable tail apparatus permits exchanging tails to add variety to a lures appearance and to replace damaged tails.

  • Patent number: 6212818
Abstract: A soft bait fish lure having an elongated body composed of two parts of which the head part is composed of a hard material while the rearmost part representing the tail of the lure is composed of a soft and flexible material. The two parts are joined together by an adhesive so as to provide an integral lure. The rearmost tail part includes cutouts on each side to reduce the thickness so that an integral hinge is formed permitting the tail fin to flex and move simulating swimming motion as the lure is drawn through the water. Flexible legs or claws are integrally formed with the hard part. The midsection of the lure includes an attachment for a fishing line and a hook with a weed guard is included. Guide means are included for aligning the head part with the tail part during attachment. Sound attraction is produced by a rattle device installed in the head part complementing the over-all lure ability. A weight is strategically placed in the head part to stabilize the lure.
