Abstract: A fishing lure having a material that is magnetically attracted to a magnet slid down a fishing line connected to the lure. A movable hook shaft housed within the lure is spring loaded to a position where a free end thereof is captured within the lure and a hook attached to the hook shaft cannot be removed from the free end. When the magnet is slid down the fishing line and magnetically influences the magnetic material, the hook shaft is moved to a position where the free end thereof is exposed and the hook can be removed therefrom.
Abstract: A fishing lure generally including a weighted body portion surrounding the front half of the shank of a hook, a relatively flat spoon portion extending rearward from a lower surface of the body portion, an artificial worm holding barb on the rear end of the body and a feather holding rim just forward of the worm holding barb. The configuration of the body tends to keep the spoon below the hook as the bait is pulled through the water. The hooked portion and the point of the hook extend upward perpendicularly above the surface of the spoon. The weight distribution and general shape of the lure prevents spinning but encourages a more natural and fish attracting side to side motion of the lure while being pulled through the water.

Abstract: In the fishing lure art there is a need for a lure that remains near and parallel to the surface of the water not only when the lure is reeled in by a fisherman, but also when the lure is stationary or left to the whims of the water's current. Described are lures having a floating body that is incorporated into a non-linear lure design. Some arrangements of the invention comprise fins on the floating body to allow the lure to generate noise as it moves through the water. Still other arrangements of the invention have a ballast that adds weight and stability to the lower portion of the lure.
Abstract: A water toy comprises an elongated buoyant body, a front attachment point, a weighted figurine, and a fin. The elongated buoyant body has a nose, a tail, a top surface, and a bottom surface. The top surface and the bottom surface meet at an outer edge. The front attachment point is disposed upon the bottom surface at the nose. The front attachment point comprises an aperture. The weighted figurine is disposed upon the top surface toward the nose. The fin extends from the bottom surface toward the tail. The water toy may comprise a rear attachment point for attaching a fish hook or lure and/or a water foil disposed upon the bottom surface at the tail.
Abstract: A fishing contest is implemented by entering a plurality of lures in the fishing contest, receiving fishing data used to judge the fishing contest from the plurality of lures, and determining a winner of the fishing contest in response to the received fishing data. Each lure includes a memory that stores a unique identifier value. This unique identifier value is stored in a database when the lure is entered in the contest. The fishing data that later becomes associated with the lure during the course of fishing (e.g., fish size, time the fish was caught, ambient conditions) is subsequently downloaded along with the unique identifier. The unique identifier stored in the data base is compared with the unique identifier downloaded with the fishing data to verify the fishing data. The verified fishing data is analyzed at the end of the contest to determine a winner.
Abstract: A custom fishing lure and a method for making a custom fishing lure. The fishing lure generally comprises one or more beads threaded on an elastic band. The elastic band secures the bead to a fishing line and, in an embodiment, secures hackle and other components to the fishing lure. The method of the invention generally comprises stretching an elastic band, threading the stretched elastic band and a length of fishing line through the aperture of a bead, and then releasing the tension on the elastic band. In an additional embodiment, the method includes the additional steps of securing the ends of the elastic band so as to hold the elastic band in a stretched condition, threading hackle or other components partially through the bead aperture, and then releasing the ends of the elastic band to secure the hackle or other component on the fishing lure.

Abstract: A soluble, moving, sound producing bait apparatus and method (10) includes, according to one embodiment of the invention, a water soluble completely biodegradable medium (12). A water soluble reactant (14) is dispersed within medium (12). According to one embodiment, water soluble reactant (14) includes CO2 charged sugar crystals (16). When introduced to water, medium (12) dissolves as do sugar crystals (16). As sugar crystals (16) begin to dissolve, the trapped CO2 escapes at the weakest point creating shattered pieces (18) of sugar crystals (16) and producing an audible sound (20). In addition to the creating sound (20), the reaction of the water soluble reactant (14) with water causes movement (22). Fishing lures and other items made of the biodegradable materials disintegrate over time in fresh or salt water to reduce pollution. The materials are digestable by fish and other aquatic animals, reducing potential harm to the animal from ingesting a fishing lure or other item made from the natural biodegradable materials disclosed. Because the material is digestable, it can also be used as a food source or supplement for fish and aquatic animals.

Abstract: A soft artificial fishing bait having two flexible front intersecting planes, which provide an up and down motion. The flexible blades bend back, when contacting an impediment, allowing the lure to flip over or around the obstruction. Two-blade interchangeable lure can be attached to a tandem hook or a flat blade hook accessory, a part of the invention, which I call a “Hookmaster”. A Pin Weight or a Pin Float, also of the invention, is often necessary to balance different lure shapes and sizes to insure maximum lure oscillation. A separate specially bent stainless steel wire weed guard is inserted into the soft bait body with loop end engaged, under tension, with hook barb to reduce possibility of hook becoming fouled. The top exterior angled portion of wire guard is flexed downwardly to retain tension so loop end portion will surround hook barb, so that lure can be fished in cover.
