Abstract: The enlarged opening at the end opposite the barb of the Large Eyelet Hook serves two purposes. On a standard hook, the eyelet is much smaller and is designed to pass only the fishing line from the fishing reel through the eyelet to secure the hook to the line. By enlarging the eyelet, the line can be attached to the hook as it was done with the smaller eyelet. In addition, the enlarged eyelet allows a soft plastic worm fishing lure to be passed through the opening. The eyelet's inside measurement has a slightly smaller cross section than the Centering Soft Plastic Worm at the widest point. As the worm is passed through the opening, it stretches, decreasing the cross section slightly, allowing the eyelet to easily seat in the recessed groove at the exact center of the specially designed worm.

  • Patent number: 6640486
Abstract: A hook having a shank with an eye at one end and a bent portion culminating in a point at the other end and having a specific gravity greater than the specific gravity of water is combined with a buoyant body mounted on the hook and means connected to the hook which, in cooperation with the buoyant body, causes the point of the hook to float above the eye of the hook in the water. In one embodiment, the cooperating means is a weight mounted on the hook or made integrally as part of the hook and located between the eye of the hook and the buoyant body so as to cause the eye to orient below the buoyant body. In another embodiment, the cooperating means is a plug to which the eye is pivotally connected to provide a point about which the buoyant body will cause the hook to rotate and thus orient the point of the hook above the eye. In an alternate to the latter embodiment, the pivotal connection can be arranged so that the point of the hook is directed toward the rear of the plug.

Abstract: A pivoting jig head and hook combination for fishing. The combination functions as a action producing lure wherein the intimacy between the tail portion of the plastic lure body 104 and the rear portion of hook 101 stabilizes the position of the jig head 102 on the shank 105 along with forward motion of the combination as it is pulled through water. The pivot ability of the jig head provides additional action to the tail portion of the plastic lure body 104. The jig head maybe dynamically formed to produce a variety of side to side actions when pulled forward through the water. As the combination has two components the rattling or vibrations created during the combinations forward motion, this also develops a desirable sonic attraction.

Abstract: Plastic worms are very popular in fishing. These plastic worms are utilized in sport fishing by the attachment of a fish hook to the front of the plastic worm. This plastic worm fish hook combination has a tendency to become entangled, snagged, in debris that is present in the water being fished. In accordance with this invention an elongated flexible shroud is provided, which is positioned over the forward end of the plastic worm. The shroud is capable of securing the plastic worm inside itself. When the shroud is placed over the head of the plastic worm the snagging of the plastic worm is prevented. The shroud of this invention may be further weighted. The purpose of the added weight is to facilitate the casting buoyancy and fish ability of the plastic worm fish hook combination. The shroud may be further colored to enhance the effectiveness of the lure or indicate the weight of the shroud.

  • Patent number: 6393758
Abstract: A method for making fishing flies which utilizes water borne acrylic emulsion to form body parts of the fly. The water borne acrylic emulsion can be applied to the hook, or it can be applied to traditional fly-tying materials. Other materials can be inserted into the water borne acrylic emulsion before it has dried, such as filaments of plastic or hair which will form the legs, wings or other body parts of the fly. The water acrylic borne acrylic emulsion can be formed into body parts which are remote from the body of the fly, such as feet, knee joints, antennae tips. Any desired color can be achieved by mixing from a selection of colored water borne acrylic emulsions. Increased buoyancy of the fly can be achieved by using buoyant materials with the water borne acrylic emulsion to form body parts. The use of this method of tying flies results in the elimination of much of the actual tying which is presently required to tie flies.

  • Patent number: 6266916
Abstract: A fishing lure molded of flexible, translucent, soft plastic material into an integral unit in the form of a baitfish. Pigments, glitter, scent and flavor additives are mixed with the plastic during manufacture to create realistic visual, smell and taste characteristics. A wide gap offset fish hook is removably attached and substantially hidden in the lure by a hook slot in the lower longitudinal edge of the lure, and by an internal chamber. The internal chamber further serves to allow the body of the lure to collapse when attacked by a fish, exposing the point of the hook, as well as to conceal tube weights, flotation inserts, trap air contributing to the buoyancy and upright positioning of the lure, and to act as a reservoir for liquid fish attractant. The buoyancy and sink rate of the lure can be manipulated by utilizing various combinations of hook sizes, tube weight sizes, and flotation inserts positions into the internal chamber.
