After exposure, the photosensitive material is placed, onto a processing material comprising a support provided with a processing layer thereon which contains a base and/or a precursor of a base, with water being present between the photosensitive material and the processing material in an amount of 1/10through 1 times that required to maximally swell the layers of the materials. The resultant assembly is heated to form an image on the photosensitive material. The photosensitive material includes an emulsion in which tabular silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of 2 to 30 account for 50% to 100% of the total projected area of all silver halide grains and in which 50% to 100% of all silver halide grains in number include 10 or more dislocation lines per grain. A method of forming images using this photosensitive material is also disclosed.
