Abstract: Photographic assemblages are described employing positive-working redox dye-releasers and a cover sheet containing an oxidant having an electrode potential of from about -200 mV up to about 1000 mV versus a saturated calomel electrode at a pH of about 5 to about 6. The oxidant is capable of oxidizing electron transfer agent in the system. The reduced form of the oxidant is incapable of reducing the positive-working redox dye-releaser. After processing, the oxidant reacts with the electron transfer agent to prevent it from reacting with the dye releaser which would otherwise cause further dye release. D.sub.min stability is thereby improved.

Abstract: Curve shape control, especially for lower scale contrast, of a photographic element is achieved by employing with the silver halide emulsion layer two nondiffusible redox dye-releasing compounds of different relative reactivities, the reactivity of the compound which is more reactive being at least 1.5 times the reactivity of the compound which is less reactive. Preferred compounds are ballasted sulfonamido compounds, each of which has a color-providing moiety attached thereto through a sulfonamido group which is alkali-cleavable upon oxidation. Preferred more reactive sulfonamido compounds have a N,N-disubstituted carbamoyl ballast group. The color-providing moieties can be (1) transferred imagewise to an image-receiving layer to provide a useful image, or (2) can be merely diffused out of the element to provide a retained image therein which can be treated to form a color transparency or a motion picture film.

Abstract: A color photographic material for the dye diffusion transfer process contains a temporary barrier layer that is applied from organic solution and consists of a mixture of(a) 40 to 95% by weight of a copolymer of 40 to 80% by weight of monomer I (vinylidene chloride, dimethyl butadiene or dichlorobutadiene) 18 to 50% by weight of monomer II ((meth)acrylonitrile or alkyl (meth)acrylate) and 2 to 10% by weight of monomer III (olefinically unsaturated copolymerizable mono or dicarboxylic acids, sulfonic acids or phosphonic acids) and(b) 5 to 60% by weight of a homopolymer of alkyl acrylate, hydroxyalkyl acrylate, N-alkyl acrylamide, N-hydroxyalkyl acrylamide vinyl acetate, or polycarbonate or cellulose acetate, or a copolymer of 80 to 99% by weight of alkyl or hydroxyalkyl acrylate and 1 to 20% by weight of a copolymerizable acid.

The outermost timing layer has a negative temperature coefficient and has a development accelerator associated therewith to increase the development of the silver halide emulsion at low temperatures. The timing layer next to the neutralizing layer has a greater penetration time by the alkaline processing composition so that the neutralizing layer is permeated only after silver halide development has been substantially completed. The temperature latitude of the system is thereby increased.

Abstract: Optical filter agents and photographic products and processes using same are disclosed. The optical filter agents are pH-sensitive hydrazone compounds conforming to the following structural formula: ##STR1## where R is any group which can provide a double bond for conjugation with the ##STR2## portion of the compound to provide light-absorbing capability or color for the agent at a pH above its pKa, X is a substituent of R providing at least one electron-withdrawing group and each R' can be defined as any substituent that does not impair the light-absorbing capacity of the compound at a pH above the pKa thereof. The pH-sensitive optical filter agents have a highly colored light-absorbing form at a pH above the pKa and are substantially non-absorbing at a pH below the pKa. The pH-sensitive optical filter agents are useful in photographic film units and processes for the protection of photoexposed photosensitive elements against the occurence of fogging during in-light development.

The vinylidene chloride polymeric layer and the polymeric primer layer prevent unwanted transfer of portions of the emulsion layer to a receiver when the receiver and photographic element are peeled apart. The polymeric primer layer can be either a particular ionic vinyl polymer or a particular ionic polyester.

Abstract: A method is disclosed of photographically processing a negative-working imagewise exposed silver halide photographic element to produce a reversal dye image comprising (a) developing the imagewise exposed silver halide with an electron transfer agent to produce oxidized electron transfer agent which reacts with a competing oxidizable substance and (b) developing silver halide remaining with the electron transfer agent in the presence of a dye image providing compound capable, after the competing oxidizable substance has been depleted, of reacting with the oxidized electron transfer agent to produce a reversal dye image. Image transfer film units are disclosed useful in the practice of this method. Such film units include those containing in addition to the competing oxidizable substance and initially immobile dye image providing compound a layer containing additional silver halide and a scavenger separating the additional silver halide from the immobile dye image providing compound.
Abstract: A photographic element comprising a support, a layer containing an image dye ligand or dye ligand forming material and a layer containing a dye mordant, wherein the mordant layer has associated therewith:(1) a polymer containing groups which form coordination complexes with metal ions; and(2) a source of metal ions.The polymer holds the metal ions in the vicinity of the dye mordant so that the metal ions can metallize the dye or dye forming material at the image receiving layer. These complexes, elements, and receiving elements are particularly useful in diffusion transfer processes. Novel polymers are also described.

Abstract: A composition comprising a mixture of (1) from 5 to 95 percent by weight of a copolymer comprising from 55 to 85 percent by weight of vinylidene chloride, 5 to 35 percent by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, and 0 to 20 percent by weight of an ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid, and (2) from 5 to 95 percent by weight of a polymeric carboxy-ester-lactone, is useful as a temporary barrier between reactants in photographic products. Abstract: Photographic elements, film units and processes are described wherein N-alkyl- or N-aryl-benzisoxazolones are used to scavenge oxidized electron transfer agents in negative-working, color image transfer elements. The scavenger precursor compounds can be located in an emulsion layer or in a dye image-providing material layer, and in a ballasted form can be located in an interlayer.
