  • Patent number: 5704776
Abstract: A safety lighter is disclosed. The lighter comprises a lighter body, a nozzle, a mounting frame disposed on the lighter body, and an actuating lever which is reciprocatingly mounted on the mounting frame between forward and rearward positions. The front end of the lever grips the nozzle and moves it from its lower position, where gas cannot escape from said nozzle, to the nozzle's upper position where gas is ejected from said nozzle. The rear end of the lever has a downwardly extending projection which can be received into a recess in the top of the lighter body when the lever is in the forward position. When the lever is in the rearward position and the rear end of the lever is pressed downward, its projection comes into vertical engagement with the top of the lighter body, which prevents the lever from pivoting far enough to lift the nozzle.

Abstract: The lighter of the present invention provides a slip ring which is concentrically mounted about the striking wheel assembly of a conventional lighter. To operate the lighter, digital pressure is applied to frictionally couple the slip ring and the striking wheel assembly together to move in concert to create a spark. The slip ring has disposed along its circumference an elongated slot. The ends of the slot engage the flint housing to halt the movement of the ring, serving to limit the range of motion of the slip ring, and, hence, the motion of the striking wheel assembly. Lastly, the slip ring includes protrusions which hold the slip ring in a neutral position until force is applied in a backward direction to disengage the slip ring.

Abstract: A portable lighter, or particularly a lighter with a safety device is disclosed, in which safety is ensured by using a separate locking device. While a lighter is convenient, the conventional lighter broods the danger that, if it is accidentally lighted, or if a child plays with it, a hellish catastrophe can occur. The present invention is intended to overcome the above described disadvantages of the conventional technique. Therefore it is the object of the present invention to provide a lighter with a safety device, in which the lighter is locked after each use, so that unexpected disaster can be prevented. In achieving the above object, the lighter according to the present invention is characterized in that a pressing button for activating a piezo electric device is prevented from being activated by a locking section, the locking section being for temporarily locking an igniting section. The locking section is activated by the pressing button and a locking member.

Abstract: A child-proof gas lighter has a lever operating a gas valve, for opening and closing the gas valve in an open and close position. An interfering piece is movably mounted on the lighter, in space relation to the lever. That interfering piece has a portion for jamming the lever, as to prevent displacements of that lever for opening the valve when moving in one direction. When moving the interfering piece counter to that direction, the lever becomes displaceable in that open position, to allow opening of the valve, thus the interfering piece is displaceable from an open unlock position to a close lock position. A retractable pen having such lighters is also described.

Abstract: An injection igniter with safety device including an igniter holder, a fuel storage compartment, a gas outlet device, a sleeve base and an ignition device assembled together and contained in a housing. When a push button is pressed, the button ring thereof is disengaged from a slot to cause a shield to move upward. A slide piece engaging with the shield is also caused to move upward so that its U-shaped slot pulls a gas nozzle upward to release gas. By pressing a piezo electric base, a piezo electric device is caused to generate static electricity which is transmitted by a lead wire leading to an injection nozzle for ignition. When the igniter is not in use, the shield is pushed downward so that the button ring retracts into the slot, causing the gas nozzle to be closed again. The fire will go out by itself when the residual gas in the gas outlet tube is totally burned. Other elements such a clip, a cap, a relay tube and an outer tube may be further included to enhance the functions of the igniter.

  • Patent number: 5460516
Abstract: In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the lighter comprises an igniter having a striker wheel which may rotate about an axis first in a clockwise direction and second in a counter-clockwise direction when the wheel is viewed from its side. A stopping means is mounted on the wheel so that its range of movement at least in the clockwise direction is limited. It is while the wheel is being rotated in its clockwise direction that it and the igniter's flint may cooperate together to create a spark which ignites the lighter fuel. When the wheel is rotated in the counter-clockwise direction, no spark is created. When the wheel has been rotated to its extreme limit of its clockwise movement, the lighter can no longer be ignited unless the wheel is moved in accordance with two separate actions, that is, first rotating the wheel in the counter-clockwise direction and then back in the clockwise direction.

  • Patent number: 5458482
Abstract: A gas lighter with a safety device is provided with a resilient leaf which can be deformed between a locked state in which the depression of a pressing means is prevented and a lock-released state in which the operation of the pressing means is allowed, and a slide member which is fitted around the resilient leaf and is movable between a first position where ignition operation is impracticable when the resilient leaf is in a locked state and a second position where the ignition operation is practicable. The slide member deforms the resilient leaf and renders it in a lock-released state at a third position which is reached during movement from the second position to the first position in response to ignition operation.

  • Patent number: 5451159
Abstract: A safety device in a gas lighter to prevent release of gas fuel stored in the lighter when a safety button is in a locked position to thereby prevent ignition of the lighter, and to allow release of gas fuel when the safety button is moved from the locked position to an unlocked position. An indentation in the safety button coacts with an end portion of a housing of the lighter to releasably retain the safety button in the unlocked position when moved there by a user's finger. Projections provided on the underside of a gas-release button guide the safety button's movement between the locked and unlocked positions and releasably retain the safety button in the unlocked position. The safety button is moved from the unlocked to the locked position when the gas-release button is released after ignition of the lighter.
