    Abstract: A device for creating an electrical potential, such as a piezoelectric igniter, is connected to a conductor that conducts current to a burn tube to create a spark that ignites the fuel in the burn tube. In one embodiment a gap is formed in the conductor. An insulator is located in the gap such that is can be selectively moved between an insulating position where the flow of electricity over the gap is prevented such that no spark is created in the burn tube and a non-insulating position where electricity is allowed to flow over the gap such that a spark is created in the burn tube. In another embodiment the piezoelectric igniter forms part of the electrical circuit and is in electrical conductive contact or proximity to an electrical conductor that forms part of the ignition circuit. An insulator may selectively located between the igniter and the conductor.

    Abstract: A portable hand held torch for use in manually igniting a standing pilot flame, a main burner flame, or any other suitable flame. In an illustrative embodiment, the portable hand held torch may include a torch body having a torch tip such that when the torch is lit, the torch tip emits a flame. The torch tip may include a hollow tip body with a first end and a second opposing end. The hollow tip body may define an initial combustion chamber. A fuel source conduit may provide fuel to the initial combustion chamber, and a high energy capacitive discharge igniter may provide a reliable ignition spark upon demand. The high energy capacitive discharge igniter may extend into the initial combustion chamber and be held in a fixed position relative to the fuel source conduit to help ensure consistent and reliable ignition, even in severe industrial environments.

    Abstract: The child resistant gas lighter of the invention has an ignition sleeve having a slit defined therein and an integrated safety cap having a press surface, an opposite slide surface, a direction bar formed on the slide surface which is inserted in the slit and is able to make the safety cap slidable in the slit.     Abstract: The object is to prevent damage to and overheating of an electric wire for electric discharge/ignition of a burner, thereby increasing its life, without increase in cost. The burner includes a housing 1, an intake pipe 3 and a burner head 4. Gas in the housing 1 is supplied to the burner head 4 through the intake pipe 3. An electric wire 8 extends through the intake pipe 3 which connects a piezoelectric element 7 to a core wire 10 from which electric discharge is generated near burner ports 9 of the burner head 4 by the piezoelectric element 7. Since the wire 8 is not exposed to outside the intake pipe 3, the wire 8 is never caught and damaged by an external object. Since air-gas mixture which is kept at around the room temperature is flowing through the intake pipe 3, the wire 8 is less likely overheat during use of the burner. Thus, it is not necessary to provide the wire 8 with a shield plate for protecting the wire 8. This simplifies the manufacturing steps and thus reduces the manufacturing cost.
