A burner tube in communication with the orifice tube via the orifice is mounted for slidable movement along the longitudinal axis of the orifice tube in conjunction with the orifice to maintain the relative position of the orifice and burner tube during movement along the orifice tube. A valve in the orifice tube is actuatable in response to the movement of the orifice means in one direction to permit gas to pass into the orifice means and in response to the movement of the orifice means in the opposite direction into a rest position to prevent the flow of gas into the orifice means. An igniter is also responsive to the movement of the orifice to effect a spark in the burner tube to ignite gas permitted to pass by the valve.

Heated oxygen and water from the reaction are carried to a collection chamber by a condenser system which condenses substantially all of the water. An evaporator system carries oxygen from the collection chamber to the flow control system. In one embodiment it is arranged in thermal association with the reactor so that the heat of the reaction is utilized to vaporize any water entrained in the oxygen coming from the collection chamber, thereby promoting proper combustion of the oxygen and fuel at the burner nozzle.

Another optional action is the availability of a high-voltage charge to stun and disable an assailant during close combat without the use of the chemical.     Abstract: A control unit for a gas-fired appliance comprises a service tap that acts also as a flame failure device. The flame failure device controls gas flow to a gas governor which is an integral part of the unit and associated with the gas governor is a low gas pressure cut-off. The unit also incorporates a modulating gas flow control valve operatively coupled to a thermostat which, in the case of a gas-fired water heater, is responsive to water temperature in the heater. When used with a water heater, the unit also includes a further thermostat set to terminate gas flow in the event that a predetermined maximum water temperature is exceeded.

    Abstract: Devices relying on the Inverse Wiedemann Effect. In all instances, magnetostrictive rods are circularly magnetized and exhibit hysteresis when plotting axial induction vs. twist. Hysteresis, especially when rectangular, yields high d.phi./dt upon twisting to result in large output voltage across terminals of coil wound about the rod. In other embodiments, rectangular hysteresis gives rise to one-shot electric push button or sequential switch. Hysteretic magnetostrictive circularly magnetized rods also serve as recording devices to detect mechanical movement or shock.
