  • Patent number: 5967768
Abstract: A lighting device comprises a valve mechanism for opening and closing a path, through which a gas is supplied from a gas tank to a jetting nozzle, a piezo-electric unit for generating a discharge voltage for lighting the gas, and an operation member, which can slide and drives the valve mechanism and the piezo-electric unit in order to carry out a lighting operation. A locking member capable of moving between a position for locking and a position for lock release works such that, when the locking member is set at the position for the locking, the locking member may lock the lighting operation of the operation member, and such that, when the locking member is set at the position for the lock release, the locking member may allow a single lighting operation of the operation member. A restraining member allows successive lighting operations of the operation member when the locking member is moved to the position for the lock release.

  • Patent number: 5954494
Abstract: The blower/ignition/electrical system supplies the air, spark, and electrical power to facilitate and control the fuel combustion in a heat exchanger for devices which output a fluid, such as a pressure washer. The system is belt driven as an intricate part of the mechanical power system used for the fluid pressure pump. The flange/magnet hub spins past the ignition coil which in turn produces a high voltage electrical source. This potential is applied across the electrode gap to ignite a fuel. The flange magnet hub also spins past a stator coil assembly which in turn produces an alternating current. This current can be rectified or left unrectified, and is wired to a switch. When the switch is activated, the current path is through the safety control devices (such as temperature control, pressure switch or flow switch) and the fuel solenoid valve which controls the fuel flow into the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 5944508
Abstract: A portable catalytically heatable appliance is provided. The appliance includes a catalyst support structure to flamelessly combust liquid or gaseous fuel and thereby provide a lower temperature heat source than a heat source that combusts fuel via flame. The fuel is ignited inside the catalytic support structure by a spark electrode. The ignition of the fuel inside the structure obviates the need for separate flame arresters. The ignition system includes a piezoelectric device that causes a voltage potential to form between the electrode and the catalytic support structure. A spark jumps from the electrode to an interior surface of the structure and ignites the fuel inside the structure, causing a flame to propagate. The flame heats the catalytic structure to an activation temperature, after which the fuel is combusted flamelessly on the surface of the catalytic structure.

  • Patent number: 5934895
Abstract: An utility lighter including a housing having a handle at one end and a nozzle at another end and including a fuel supply connected for selective fluid communication with the nozzle. An ignitor assembly, such as a piezoelectric mechanism, is operatively connected to the housing for generating a spark proximate the nozzle and an actuating assembly is connected to the housing proximate the handle and operates to both dispense fuel from the fuel supply and to activate the ignitor assembly. A latch member is operatively connected with the handle and includes a blocking portion connected for biased movement relative to the actuating assembly. The latch member is normally biased into engagement with the actuating assembly to prevent operative movement except when the user moves the latch member against the bias. When the latch member is moved out of engagement with the actuating assembly by the user, a trigger may be pulled to release fuel and initiate a spark at the nozzle.

A comparing circuit compares a difference in the resistance values with a reference value stored in a reference value memory, and a extinction detecting circuit detects a fire extinction when the difference calculated by the resistance value difference calculating circuit had exceeded the reference value. • Patent number: 5735684
Abstract: An improved gas pistol with reverse flow heating device including a base, a support device, a piezo electric device, an air control device, a reverse flow heating device, an ejection device and an outer tube. In use, an insert ring is coupled to a gas container so that a conical pin in a neck ring urges against a gas valve of the gas container to release the gas, which flows via an inverted-L shaped hole at one side of the conical pin into a neck channel into a sleeve. By turning a control rod to adjust the flow of gas and to cause it to pass through an insert mount, a heating tube and a nut hole into a securing nut, the gas is vaporized and then passed through a relay tube to be ejected through a gas nozzle. At the instant when the gas is ejected, an air adjustment knob may be turned to adjust the amount of induced air to help combustion. Gas and air are mixed in a mixing tube, and the mixture is pushed to a flame nozzle and ejected through a jet hole and a plurality of primary flame holes.

Spark discharge for ignition of a wick is started in the course of raising of the wick. • Patent number: 5564919
Abstract: The portable burning device includes a gas tank, a coupling seat, a piezo-electric means, a control means, a gas release means, an outer tube unit and a shell. In use, a knob is turned in a counter-clockwise direction to cause a projection of an adjusting rod to retreat so as to be separated from a neck hole of a shaft such that fuel gas may be induced via an intake tube into a gas duct. The pressure of the fuel gas is regulated by a pressure regulating means to accelerate flow of the fuel gas into a shaft hole. The fuel gas then passes through the neck hole and a shaft opening and is ejected via a gas nozzle. The current of gas thus generated draws in ambient air via an air vent into a mixing tube. The mixture of gas and air flows through a gear seat and is ejected via a central gear hole and a plurality of gear ducts defined between adjacent teeth of a gear. By pressing a push button at this point, electrostatic sparks generated by the piezo-electric means will ignite the mixture.
