Flame Holder And Fuel Tank Assembly Patents (Class 431/344)
  • Publication number: 20020055075
Abstract: A gas operated lantern includes a regulator having a simple mechanism allowing a user to start or stop the flow of gas through the regulator. The regulator preferably exhausts an air/gas mixture in the same direction as which gas enters the regulator. The regulator includes a diaphragm assembly which presses down on a valve assembly to open the valve assembly. A stem enters the regulator and is turnable by the user to raise the diaphragm assembly and thus cause the valve assembly to close. The lantern also includes an automatic choke. The choke is preferably a strip of metal located in the burner tube of the lantern which acts to close off a portion of the burner tube when the lantern is cold, causing the air/fuel mixture to become richer and thus easier to light. As the lantern heats up, the choke straightens to open the burner tube, allowing a greater flow of air through the lantern and causing the air/fuel mixture to become leaner and thus raising the efficiency of the lantern.

  • Publication number: 20020031738
Abstract: A candle maintenance device according to the invention preferably has a body with a handle portion to grip the device. A trigger is used to engage a wick cutting element and lighting element. The wick cutting element preferably includes a cutting actuator mechanism, cutting guide and cutting device. The lighting element preferably includes a fuel cell for housing a fuel, fuel lines and an igniter source. A candlewick placed in the wick cutting element will be drawn into or forced against a cutting device such as a cutting blade. Contemporaneously with the cutting of the wick, the lighting element will release fuel from the fuel cell and ignite the fuel via the igniter source. The fuel is discharged through piping to a location in close proximity to the cutting device. An igniter source causes a spark to ignite the fuel thereby igniting the wick.

An ignitor assembly, such as a piezoelectric mechanism, is operatively connected to the housing for generating a spark proximate the nozzle and an actuating assembly is connected to the housing proximate the handle and operates to both dispense fuel from the fuel supply and to activate the ignitor assembly. A latch member is operatively connected with the handle and includes a blocking portion connected for biased movement relative to the actuating assembly. The latch member is normally biased into engagement with the actuating assembly to prevent operative movement except when the user moves the latch member against the bias. When the latch member is moved out of engagement with the actuating assembly by the user, a trigger may be pulled to release fuel and initiate a spark at the nozzle.

A linking mechanism is provided in order to initiate the flow of fuel from the fuel supply prior to generation of a spark such that a spark is generated when fuel is present at the nozzle. A locating mechanism is provided proximate the valve of the fuel container in order to properly position the fuel container within the housing. In addition, an isolator cap is disposed around the nozzle to assist in directing the spark in the vicinity of the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 6065959
Abstract: A handy gas torch includes a fuel container, a fuel gas control device, a piezoelectric device, a securing plate, a supporting frame, a burning, and a top cover. During operation, a knob of the fuel gas control device is turned so that fuel in the fuel container is drawn up by a suction tube of a gas supply device. The fuel gas passes through a tube neck of the fuel gas control device, a guide hole, a gas output tube to a fuel gas nozzle of the burning device and then fills a channel. By turning an adjusting knob to bring a knob hole into alignment with an air intake hole, air is induced into the channel to mix with the fuel gas. The fuel mixture is ejected by a fire nozzle of a fire ejecting device. Upon the user's pressing a press handle of the piezoelectric device to cause a boss on a press plate to press against a piezoelectric means, sparks are generated by a lead wire on one side of the fire nozzle to ignite the fuel mixture for burning purposes.
