Sensor Movement Losses Means Holding Shutdown Valve Open Against Bias Patents (Class 431/83)
  • Patent number: 7670137
Abstract: An automated ignition assembly for a gas-fueled appliance includes a pressure plate positioned between an upper bellows and a lower bellows, each of which is in selective communication with a fuel gas source. If fuel gas is directed to the lower bellows, gas within the upper bellows is diverted to an ignition site; as the lower bellows inflates, it lifts the pressure plate and an associated linkage assembly to engage a piezo igniter, which creates a spark at the ignition site. The lower bellows is then deflated and the upper bellows is inflated to again engage the piezo igniter. Once a flame has been generated, or if a flame has not been generated within a predetermined time period, an automated valve disables fuel gas flow to the bellows.

  • Patent number: 6863527
Abstract: A heater includes a handle, a combustion chamber, a valve and a thermal controller. A reservoir for fuel can be installed in the handle. The combustion chamber is mounted on the handle. The valve is received in the handle. The valve defines a passage through which fuel can flow from the reservoir into the combustion chamber for combustion. The thermal controller includes a memory element at least partially received in the combustion chamber and a rod connected between the memory element and the valve for controlling a rate at which fuel can flow through the passage defined in the valve based on the temperature in the combustion chamber. The memory element is a helical memory metal element. The memory element shrinks or expands when the temperature increases above a certain value.

  • Patent number: 6164958
Abstract: A safety system for a gas burning device, such as a gas range having a plurality of burner assemblies. The safety system generally comprises a gas supply valve, a gas flow sensor, a gas leak warning circuit, a no-flame warning circuit, a gas supply valve controller for receiving warning signals from the warning circuits and for closing said gas supply valve in response thereto and a fan controller for activating the fan. Other warning circuits include a timer warning circuit and a smoke detection warning circuit. A display panel shows which warning circuit has issued a warning signal. A microprocessor may perform many system functions.

  • Patent number: 6050808
Abstract: There is provided a control device for a gas burner used for gas cookers, in which the gas burner is connected to a flame monitoring device. The flame monitoring device has a timing device (11) which regulates a closing mechanism of a gas valve (7) or a gas control unit (2) in accordance with a predetermined switch-on time and/or a predetermined switch-off time. In that arrangement the control device (11) can act directly on the gas valve (7). It can however also act on an electromechanical relay (20) or an electro-hydraulic relay (21) which are each connected to a respective bimetal control device of the flame monitoring device.

  • Patent number: 5800154
Abstract: The invention is directed to a gas-heatable appliance for personal use as, for example, a curling iron, a curling brush, a hair dryer, an epilating appliance, a domestic appliance, or the like, including a fuel gas reservoir, a combustion chamber, and a valve assembly disposed between the fuel gas reservoir and the combustion chamber for controlling and/or regulating the amount of fuel gas supplied, in particular in dependence upon temperature. There are further provided a valve housing (4) with a gas passageway (5, 15, 16) and a sealing element (6) associated with the gas passageway (5, 15, 16), as well as an actuator (7) for actuating the sealing element (6). The element is configured as a control member actuatable by a user and/or as a temperature-responsive actuator (7). In this arrangement, the sealing element (6) is actuated directly by the actuator (7).

  • Patent number: 4413975
Abstract: A combination control for main and pilot burners of gas burner apparatus wherein a thermostatically controlled redundant simultaneously controls the supply of gas to pilot burner and main burner gas outlets. A pilot flow passage has a first branch passageway which supplies a restricted low pilot supply of gas independently of the redundant valve for producing a pilot burner flame of a small standby size when the redundant valve is closed. The pilot flow passage further includes a second branch passageway communicating with the redundant valve for supplying an increased high pilot supply of gas to produce a pilot flame of a larger ignition size when the redundant valve is open. A check valve in the second branch passageway blocks gas flow therethrough from the first branch passageway when the redundant valve is closed.

  • Patent number: 4303384
Abstract: A flame failure device has a hollow, tubular, heat-resistant, temperature sensitive member to be directly heated by a flame and so arranged that the member will expand or contract along a generally rectilinear axis as it is heated or cooled. The temperature-sensitive member is connected to a mount in a manner which permits or permitted at least initial adjustment of the relative position of the mount and temperature-sensitive element along the generally rectilinear axis and has an abutment which will move relative to the mount as the temperature-sensitive member is heated or cooled. A main valve for controlling supply of fuel to a burner has a fuel inlet, a fuel outlet, a chamber having a diaphragm defining a wall of the chamber, a main-valve member operatively connected to the diaphragm and movable therewith, and a supply passage for restricted fuel flow to the chamber.

  • Patent number: 4165962
Abstract: A device for comprising a support bar and a holding bar formed with holes respectively extending therethrough and arranged coaxially in alignment with each other and a valve operating rod slidably extending through the holes and supported by the bars. When a heater wire is elongated by a gas flame, an auxiliary spring acts to incline the holding bar, causing the holding bar to hold the valve operating rod by the principle of friction ratchet, with the rod maintaining a stop valve in its open position. On contraction of the heater wire due to extinction of the gas flame, the holding bar returns to its original position, releasing the valve operating rod, which in turn closes the stop valve under the action of a spring.
