Patent number: 6447289Abstract: A support stand for supporting an elongated rotary drum for rotation about a longitudinally extending drum axis includes a lower portion extending upwardly from a base to a tilted top extending in a plane of tilt; a correspondingly tilted upper portion mounted atop the lower portion, and a carrying roller rotatably mounted on the upper portion for rotation about a roller axis while a riding ring extending coaxially around the drum bears against and rides in rolling contact on the roller. The upper portion is rotatably positionable relative to the lower portion about a skew axis perpendicularly intersecting the plane of tilt at a fixed point. The skew axis substantially radially intersect the drum axis. As well, the skew axis substantially radially intersects the roller axis. A mechanism for adjusting the amount of skew and an indicator for displaying the amount of skew are also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 27, 2001Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Inventors: Jeffery Franklin Boyne, Donavan Roy Larsen

Patent number: 5333600Abstract: A tar melting assembly that is used with a portable heat torch and has a tar melting kettle that includes a body having a front, back, side and bottom walls, and a spout that extends out from the front. A plurality of heat exchangers within the body are situated adjacent the bottom wall and each of these has an opening at the front and another opening at the back. A handle facilitates tipping of the kettle for pouring the melted tar. A stand for the tar kettle has a tray formed of a bottom, front, back and side walls that define the interior of the tray. The corners of the tray are supported on legs. A socket in the back wall of the tray receives the torch head and has a releasable latching provision. The tar kettle is seated in the stand so that inlets and outlets of the heat exchanger tubes are within the interior of the stand. The torch injects flame into the interior of the tray so that the flame enters the heat exchanger tubes for rapid melting of the tar in the tar kettle.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1993Date of Patent: August 2, 1994Inventor: Martin Fitzpatrick

Patent number: 5245627Abstract: A process is disclosed, for treating dross containing a metal such as aluminum, in order to recover this metal, In this process, the dross to be treated is introduced into a rotary or oscillating furnace, in which it is heated to a temperature above the melting point of the metal to be recovered while the furnace is rotated or oscillated to cause the metal to be recovered to separate from the dross. After the separation is completed, the metal to be recovered is removed from the furnace prior to removing the balance of the dross. In this process, the furnace that is used is a radiating arc furnace having two opposite electrodes which are preferably made of graphite, between which an electrical arc is generated and maintained in order to provide the desired heating.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1991Date of Patent: September 14, 1993Assignee: Hydro QuebecInventor: Michel G. Patent number: 5222096Abstract: An induction furnace (1) for melting and casting purposes has a closed crucible pot (2) with a pot bottom (3) and a cover (4), a crucible (6) housed in the crucible pot and surrounded by an induction coil (7), and an ascending tube (9) reaching into the crucible, through which the crucible can be emptied into a casting apparatus by means of gas pressure. To permit continuous operation and measurements and analyses during operation, the ascending tube (9) is fastened exclusively to the pot bottom (3) and connected with a horizontal delivery tube (11) which is brought through a side wall of the pot bottom (3). Furthermore, above a separation seam (24) between pot bottom (3) and cover (4) a turret (39) with a vertical axis of rotation is disposed, which has a charging air lock (26) for charging the crucible (6) with melt material (27) and a measuring chamber (36). The charging air lock and measuring chamber can be connected alternately with an air lock valve (25) which is disposed on the top of the cover (4).Type: GrantFiled: August 5, 1991Date of Patent: June 22, 1993Assignee: Leybold AktiengesellschaftInventor: Wolfgang Reuter

Patent number: 5066229Abstract: A jig for holding a plurality of disc brake pads during curing of the pads after the heat forming thereof, including, a frame, a pair of hanger shafts, a front support plate, a rear support plate, and a drive mechanism. The frame has a front plate and a rear plate. The hanger shafts extend from the front plate to the rear plate. The front support plate and the rear support plate are slidably fitted on the hanger shafts so that both support plates can be guided by the hanger shafts. Springs are provided between the rear plate and the rear support plate. The drive mechanism includes a gear and a bolt. The gear has teeth on its outside circumferential surface and is rotatably supported by the front plate. When the gear is rotated, the front support plate is pushed toward the rear plate by the bolt, and the pads are interposed in a compressed state between both of the support plates after the heat forming.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 1990Date of Patent: November 19, 1991Assignee: Akebono Brake Industry Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masaji Kitajima

Patent number: 4679205Abstract: In a tiltable metallurgical furnace vessel having a completely closed lateral protrusion with a closable discharge opening on its underside, simplified furnace structure is achieved by configuring the protrusion as a removable, heatable fore-hearth that is constructed in the form of a casting spout. A particularly simple structure results due to the fact that the fore-hearth is flanged to the main furnace vessel and essentially has a box shape. The invention is particularly useful for electric arc furnaces.Type: GrantFiled: March 27, 1985Date of Patent: July 7, 1987Assignee: Fried. Patent number: 4180381Abstract: A tilting device for tilting crucible furnaces is supported in a stand wherein a yoke mounts the crucible furnace to the stand and is pivotable about a shaft extending transverse to the opening of the crucible furnace. The shaft is supported in movable guide tubes mounted within respective upstanding members of the stand. The movable guide tubes are releasably locked within the upstanding members such that operation of a lifting device causes the crucible and yoke to rotate about the shaft and release of the locking means causes the crucible and yoke to be lifted from the stand with operation of the lifting device and movement of the guide tubes within the upstanding members.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1978Date of Patent: December 25, 1979Assignee: ASEA AktiebolagInventor: Yngve Caisander
