  • Patent number: 5362234
Abstract: This invention consists of three main parts and a shock-absorbing resilient member. The first main part is a self-drilling implant. The self-drilling implant is tubular in design, having a hollow basket that saves some of the bone granulate from the osteotomy. The bone granulate encourages the formation of a blood clot, helps to immobilize the implant and provides an absorbable substance to precipitate recalcification. The second part is a tissue extension that screws into the implant. The tissue extension has a socket which receives the third element, i.e., the keeper. Two alternative keeper designs, each with its own type of shock-absorbing member, are disclosed. Each keeper embodiment has a bi-frustum principle shape and a longitudinal central shaft. Various dental prosthesis may be attached to the keeper.

  • Patent number: 5203700
Abstract: As known, comfortable, yieldable elastomeric gasket liners are used to couple a prosthetic denture to an individual's natural tooth. The gasket liners are generally affixed to the prosthetic denture by chemical bonding agents. The gasket liners are exposed to shearing and separating forces whenever the prosthetic denture is withdrawn or inserted into position for use. As known, the bonding agents fail to adequately maintain contact between the yieldable elastomeric gasket liners and a prosthetic denture. Repair or replacement of a gasket liner is thereby required, necessitating loss of use and repair. The invention relates to an improved prosthetic denture for mechanically and physically locking a yieldable elastomeric gasket liner to the interior aperture walls of the prosthetic denture. The invention includes a prosthetic denture having grooves which encircle the interior surfaces surrounding an aperture of a prosthetic denture.

Abstract: A dental prosthesis having multiple components is provided with flexibility by connecting individual components of the prosthesis with flexible buffer components that are connected to the individual components of the prosthesis through dovetail slots that are located between adjacent components. The flexible buffer components are inserted in the dovetail slots to connect adjacent components of the prosthesis. The connection of tooth crowns and bridge components by the flexible means of the present invention fixes in place the remaining teeth to which the crown or bridge is connected but it preserves the flexibility of the teeth that support the crown or bridge. This contributes to a healthy mouth. The mobility of the dental prosthesis can be adjusted to approximate that of the normal teeth by varying the flexibility of the buffer part or parts.

  • Patent number: 4758160
Abstract: A dental implant comprising an endosteal implant, having a bifurcated core therein, adapted for receiving a prosthetic head. The abutting surfaces of the endosteal implant and the prosthetic head preferably have equal outer diameters. The prosthetic head has a bifurcated shank thereon. The bifurcated core and bifurcated shank cooperate to secure the prosthetic head to the endosteal implant only at an inner segment of the bifurcated core, so as to preserve an annular space between the outer shank segment and the outer portion of the bifurcated core in the area of the alveolar bone. By means of this specialized attachment of the prosthetic head to the endosteal implant, stresses applied to the prosthetic head are translated directly to an inner segment of the endosteal implant, and thus are not applied to the alveolar ridge. Cratering of the alveolar bone is minimized as a result.

  • Patent number: 4756689
Abstract: A connecting device for oral and extra-oral prostheses which is partially implanted in bodily tissue, primarily bone tissue, by means of an anchorage unit (a fixture) that provides more favorable stress and force distribution between the implanted and the outer portion of the prosthesis located peri-tissually. The connecting device includes a cap-shaped matrix (6) whose base is connectable to the anchorage unit by an intermediary spacer (1), and the matrix (6) which includes a resilient portion, for example a separate O-ring member (9) by which the matrix is connected to the prosthesis outer portion (15), preferably through an outer sleeve-shaped patrix (11) so that this will become elastically anchored to the matrix (6).

Abstract: A connecting device is included in oral and extra-oral prostheses of the type which is partially implanted in bodily tissue, primarily bone tissue, by means of a specifically designed anchorage unit (a fixture). The connecting device provides more favorable stress and force distribution between the implanted and the outer portion of the prosthesis located peritissually. The connecting device includes an outer, cylindrical sleeve-shaped patrix (6) for connection to the outer prosthesis portion, for example by casting, and is designed to surround a central spacer screw (3) of a spacer (1) connected to the anchorage unit. The device connects through lower base (11), to a collar-shaped portion (4, 5) of the spacer (1) by the intermediary of a resilient member (7).

  • Patent number: 4738622
Abstract: The specification discloses a removable denture retaining structure in which an elastic mounting member is provided between a denture body and a support base. This structure can obviate all problems of the prior art, i.e. many parts are required, skilled technique is also required to produce, mount and dismount the denture body, and looseness and breakage due to fatigue are apt to occur. Furthermore, the invention is advantageous because the structure can provide patients with comfortable feeling during use.

  • Patent number: 4626214
Abstract: A dental implant is disclosed of the type which is fixed to the maxilla of the jaw bone. The implant includes a first elongated body which is externally threaded so that one of its ends can be secured into the maxilla. This body includes an axial bore which extends out of its other end. A second body forming part of the implant includes the artificial tooth at one end and, at the other end, a shaft portion of the first body. The construction permits a certain amount of axial movement between the first and second bodies, once they are fitted together and cushioning is provided between them to simulate the function of a real tooth.

  • Patent number: 4579528
Abstract: The concept of resilient pressure fit is extended to permit ready modification according to the preference of the wearer. In particular, according to the invention, a telescopic connection mechanism includes a vertically disposed male element with a male railway which mates, in a telescopic relation, with a vertically disposed female element having a female guideway, wherein the male element is provided with an insert-receiving recess of predefined size and shape forming a transverse-oriented slot for receiving a selected variety of inserts which lock into the slot. The inserts cannot be removed from the recess slot while the male element is engaged by the female element, but the insert is readily removable from the male element when not engaged by the female element. The recess slot is bordered by wings transverse of the engagement axis of the male element and the female element. An insert is useful for forming a lock to a latch means transverse of and in the female guideway.
