Patent number: 9168110Abstract: A dental implant system including an implant and an abutment is disclosed. The implant includes a generally cylindrical body, a central axis, a distal end for anchoring in a patient's bone and a proximal end opposing the distal end. The proximal end includes a roughened lateralized surface that surrounds an abutment-engaging region. The lateralized surface is disposed at a negative slope relative to the central axis. The abutment includes an upper portion for supporting a tooth-like prosthesis and a lower portion for engaging the abutment-engaging region of the dental implant. The diameter of the lower portion of the abutment is smaller than the diameter of the implant at its proximal end. The lower portion includes a first surface with a soft-tissue enhancing material. The first surface and the lateralized surface defining a circumferentially extending recess having a V-shaped cross-section for receiving and attachment to the soft tissue.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2013Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: Biomet 3i, LLCInventors: Ross W. Patent number: 9149564Abstract: The present invention provides articles of manufacture comprising biocompatible nanostructures comprising significantly increased surface area for, e.g., organ, tissue and/or cell growth, e.g., for bone, tooth, kidney or liver growth, and uses thereof, e.g., for in vitro testing of drugs, chemicals or toxins, or as in vivo implants, including their use in making and using artificial tissues and organs, and related, diagnostic, screening, research and development and therapeutic uses, e.g., as drug delivery devices. The present invention provides biocompatible nanostructures with significantly increased surface area, such as with nanotube and nanopore array on the surface of metallic, ceramic, or polymer materials for enhanced cell and bone growth, for in vitro and in vivo testing, cleansing reaction, implants and therapeutics. The present invention provides optically transparent or translucent cell-culturing substrates.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 2007Date of Patent: October 6, 2015Assignee: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIAInventors: Sungho Jin, Seunghan Oh

Patent number: 9131993Abstract: A system, an abutment, a dental implant, kits and a method for implanting a prosthesis onto a jaw of a patient. The proximal end of the abutments is a flat connection of a predefined shape that is circularly symmetrical with a proximad decreasing radius. The prosthesis is attached to the distal ends of the abutments, and each abutment corresponds to a dental implant in the jaw. The dental implants are not all parallel to each other and may form any angle between them. The flat connection allows substantial tolerance in attaching the prosthesis to the dental implants. The predefined form may be a proximal disc connected to a distal truncated cone, wherein the proximal disc is congruent to the proximal face of the truncated cone. One system comprises abutments, dental implants, elastic supporting elements and extension elements.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2009Date of Patent: September 15, 2015Assignee: A.B. Patent number: 9119688Abstract: A holding device for retaining and transporting a dental implant, particularly a dental implant stored in an ampule having preserving fluid, is provided. The holding device has a securing section, which has a force transmission element for rotationally securing the dental implant and an attachment element having one or more resilient arms formed integrally with and distally of the force transmission element, for longitudinally retaining the dental implant. The resilient arms do not extend beyond the radial perimeter of the force transmission element. The resilient arms can be transformed between a first operative configuration and a second compressed configuration under forces during operation, to allow a radially enlarged end of the arms to releasably engage an undercut of the dental implant.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 2012Date of Patent: September 1, 2015Assignee: STRAUMANN HOLDING AGInventors: Frank Kenk, Stéphane Courvoisier, Guillaume Bugnard, Miodrag Lazic
