  • Patent number: 4571188
Abstract: The disclosed invention is directed to a method of restoring a tooth with a light cured composite which comprises utilizing a light transparent impression or matrix which constitutes a negative reproduction of the occlusal surface of the tooth. The matrix is made by contacting the tooth surface with a polymeric impression material which when cured is light transparent and flexible. The polymeric impression material is allowed to set and then is stripped away from the tooth surface. A cavity preparation is then made in the tooth surface and treated in the usual manner. A light cured composite is then injected into the cavity preparation. The previously formed matrix is then placed over the light cured composite and pressure applied to the matrix. The composite is then cured by exposure to photopolymerizing light which passes through the transparent matrix. Following light curing, the matrix is stripped away from the tooth surface leaving a restored tooth with the original occlusal anatomy reproduced.

Abstract: A solid fatty polyamide dissolved in a volatile organic solvent has been found effective for preparing cavities of teeth for restoration. For example, when this solution is applied to a cavity in the form of a dental cavity varnish, the organic solvent may be evaporated to leave behind a continuous polyamide film which is compatible with methacrylate resin type restoratives. Solid fatty polyamides are generally derived from the reaction product of partially polymerized unsaturated fatty acids with aliphatic diamines. The present invention relates to methods for preparing cavities with these polyamides as well as to compositions containing these polyamides.

  • Patent number: 4251565
Abstract: A family of polyfunctional surface-active comonomers which act to improve the adhesion between a resin or composite material and solid surfaces capable of binding polyvalent cations is described. These polyfunctional surface-active comonomers, or "PolySACs", are preferably the reaction product of an epoxy acrylate or methacrylate and an aminobenzoate. The adhesion of the resin or composite material to certain solid surfaces is also improved by the preparatory treatment of these surfaces with a monobasic acid of intermediate strength followed by treatment with a mordant. In its most preferred form the invention is employed in reconstructive dental work to improve the adhesion between a resin or composite material and dentin. The dentin is cleansed with isotonic formic acid, treated with an isotonic ferric chloride mordant and then treated with a PolySAC which is the reaction product of an oligomeric diglycidyl ether, acrylic acid and lithium ortho-aminobenzoate. The resin or composite material is then applied.
