  • Patent number: 10339822
Abstract: A system and method to optimize learning efficacy and efficiency in an online course is disclosed. In particular, the methods include customizing the sequence of delivery of course content as the course is being delivered, in a way that does not necessitate upfront input from an instructor/author or anyone else, beyond what which would be provided for a standard, non-adaptive course already. The present invention is also directed to a system to implement said customization and individualization methods. The present method is further directed to a linear flow of delivered materials, but the flow is dependent upon student actions in the course, among other conditions. In the present invention, individualized adaptation is based on this input, but can be augmented with additional information provided by instructors, if desired, as well.

  • Patent number: 10207405
Abstract: The spontaneous animation methods disclosed herein generate apparent emotions and apparent willful actions in artificial characters using mathematical formulae. Because these animations are spontaneously calculated, they are precisely tailored to interactive input. This is in contrast to current methods for creating interactive characters, in which the computer selects among predetermined animation sequences to approximate an appropriate reaction. In addition to spontaneously generating emotional states and actions, this method is further capable of spontaneously evolving a progression of emotive states and actions, thereby simulating an evolving emotional relationship and/or creating extended interactive sequences with a plot-like structure. Because spontaneous animation replaces stored behaviors with realtime calculations, it can require thousands of times less data than animation methods currently used in animation and gaming.

Abstract: A system and method are provided for treating excessive or problematic computer use. In at least one embodiment, a method is employed to treat excessive or problematic computer use by acquiring information about the unwanted user activity, monitoring user activity for the unwanted behavior, controlling the behavior when it occurs, enabling the user to record self-observations and evaluating the results. This method may employ a computer based system to treat excessive or problematic computer use which includes configuring a user activity monitor with constraints, programmatically enforcing those constraints, reporting the activities monitored and restricted, and enabling a user to input self-observations. Potential constraints include a complete bar on the user activity, as well as, progressively decreasing the amount of time the user may engage in the activity, i.e. titrating the user activity.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of detection disturbances of movement and light for semi-secure items via a bluetooth enabled ‘chip’ which will alert a cellular device within range of any changes via 1) gyroscope and 2) photocell or other light measuring device. Data collection from the device is started by pressing a button, after which a ten second period is afforded to place the device in location to be monitored. Upon the completion of the ten seconds, the device will take a ‘fingerprint’ of current conditions (light, position) and enter low energy state. If no environmental changes have been observed, the device will register a message indicating such on the cellular device once the cellular device comes in range. If environmental changes have been made, the device will indicate the disturbance type (light and/or movement) as well as the time the disturbance(s) occurred.

Abstract: In summary the invention relates to a stimuli control system configured for finding ambient stimuli from a database in a way so that the ambient stimuli having the most promising effect on stress reduction is selected. The selection may be performed based on a probability distribution created for describing how likely it is that a given ambient stimuli has a positive effect on the stress level for a given patient or other user. The database is a multiuser database which may be updated based on experiences from users' already registered ambient stimuli.
