  • Patent number: 11058919
Abstract: A system and method for rehabilitating a patient. In some embodiments, a patient or other subject can stand on a balance plate and perform one or more tests in response to instructions or visual stimuli on a display screen. Data, such as Centre of Pressure data, can be obtained from the balance plate and processed by a processor in tandem with the progression of a test presented on the display screen. The information can be correlated and used to assist in diagnosing or rehabilitating the patient or subject.

  • Patent number: 10786415
Abstract: A comprehensive system for treatment of wrist joint proprioception. The system includes a manipulandum unit and a controller. The unit includes a base, a handle, a linkage assembly, and motors. The base supports a subject's forearm, and the handle is gripped by the palm. The linkage assembly connects the handle to the base, and establishes three DOFs. The motors are operatively connected to the linkage assembly. The controller is programmed to actuate, and receive feedback information from, each of the plurality of motors. Further, the controller is programmed to perform wrist proprioception assessment operations by actuating the plurality of motors to effectuate movement of the handle relative to the base in a prescribed manner indicative of position motion sense acuity as an objective measure of wrist proprioception functioning. The controller is optionally further programmed to perform rehabilitation training via controlled operation of the unit and a virtually reality environment.

  • Patent number: 9108005
Abstract: An apparatus and method for identifying the flexor retinaculum of the carpal tunnel, injecting an effective amount of an agent into at least a portion of flexor retinaculum or tissue adjacent thereto, wherein the agent is configured to weaken the flexor retinaculum. The system may further include means for increasing the tensile stress in the flexor retinaculum post-injection using hand exercises, thereby weakening its structural integrity and decreasing the pressure within the carpal tunnel that impairs median nerve function.

  • Patent number: 9028258
Abstract: The present invention provides method and apparatus to perform combined cognitive and motor rehabilitation on a computerized non-portable system or on single portable device. A patient can play a variety of games that require the patient to perform a variety of memory exercises which involve physical exertion. The activities of the patient are monitored with pattern analysis software which provides feedback to the patient. The feedback can include voice synthesis, video guidance, progression messages etc. Patient data obtained while the patient is performing each of the memory exercises is stored locally on a database module and then uploaded to a cloud server. A remote psychologist/psychiatrist monitors the patient by logging into the same cloud, and updating cognition exercises. The same therapist can have live chats with the patient for further interaction and coaching.

  • Publication number: 20140162231
Abstract: A method for developing a user's perceptual motor skills. The method includes providing a plurality of sheets and providing, on each of the plurality of sheets, a skill development activity to be completed by a user. Collectively, the skill development activities require the user to employ each of the user's visual discrimination skills, visual memory skills, visual spatial relationship skills, visual form constancy skills, visual sequential memory skills, visual figure ground skills, and visual closure skills. The method includes providing pictorial indicia on each of the plurality of sheets that provides a thematic link between the plurality of sheets, binding the plurality of sheets together in a predetermined order, and cuing the user to complete the skill development activities of the plurality of sheets in the predetermined order.

  • Publication number: 20120077165
Abstract: An interactive learning method with drawing is implemented by the execution of a program incorporated with a screen. A sequence of dots is provided on the screen. Children connect adjacent dots starting from the starting dot in sequence. A connecting line appears between a pair of adjacent dots when they are connected successively. Finally, those connecting lines constitute an object when all the pairs of adjacent dots have been connected and a series of images or an animation related to the object is displayed to strengthen children's learning impression and recognition ability. After that, a few buttons are provided on screen. When the button is touched or clicked by the children, its corresponding object is explained by text or/and voice. By doing so, it may enhance their ability of reading and listening. Hence, this interactive learning method can increase children's interest in learning. Consequently, they can learn by themselves.

  • Patent number: 5241952
Abstract: A therapeutic range-of-motion exercise device is described herein as having a flat rectangular surface board with intersecting grooves routed into the top surface in patterns of, for example, a half circle, a straight line, and a straight line at a 45-degree angle. These patterns may vary from model to model in order to provide the user with progressively difficult patterns to increase rehabilitation benefits. The user places his hand into the hand guide, a flat hand-shaped device with a depression routed into the top surface for comfort, and a double set of hook and loop straps to secure the hand to the guide. A capped bolt protruding from the bottom of the guide slides into the grooves in the top surface of the board and the user pushes the handguide along these grooves, enabling him to stretch and rotate the arm and shoulder in a full range of motion. The range-of-motion board will accommodate the right or left arm of the patient.
