Display Or Recordation Of Simulated Flight Path Of Ground Trainer Patents (Class 434/47)
  • Patent number: 8897931
Abstract: A system for unmanned aircraft system (UAS) testing which incorporates a UAS flight control system and an optionally piloted vehicle (OPV) carrying the UAS flight control system. The OPV has an OPV flight control system and a flight control interpreter (FCI) which receives input from the UAS flight control system representing control parameters for a flight profile of the UAS. The FCI provides status commands as an output to the OPV flight control system to replicate the flight profile. These status commands are selected from the group consisting of data regarding attitude, vertical navigation, lateral navigation, turn rate, velocity and engine operations. The OPV flight control system includes a pilot override for emergency, flight safety or other contingencies allowing an on board pilot to assume control of the OPV.

Abstract: A portable electronic device (1410) for controlling a simulated aircraft in a training exercise executing in an Air Traffic Control (ATC) system having a simulator, a method of doing the same using a portable electronic device (1410), and a computer program product are disclosed. The device is capable of wirelessly communicating with the simulator (1420, 1430) also suitable adapted for wireless communications. The device (1410) comprises a display (2014), a memory (2006) for storing data and one or more computer programs, a user input mechanism (2002, 2070, 2071), and a processor (2005). The device (1410) displays on the display information about an aircraft in a training exercise executing on the simulator and receives inputs to control the aircraft in the training exercise on the simulator. The displayed information and the received inputs are communicated between the simulator and the portable electronic device (1410).

  • Patent number: 6910892
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for automatically generating a terrain model for display during a simulated flight along a predefined mission route. The apparatus includes a mission profiler that automatically determines the area containing the mission route for which the terrain source data is required and the respective resolution of different regions within the area. The apparatus also includes an apparatus for automatically collecting the terrain source data including a search engine for automatically searching electronic collections of terrain source data to identify terrain source data covering the area containing the mission route. The apparatus also includes an image engine for processing the terrain source data into one or more predefined formats and a terrain engine for automatically compiling the processed data to create a terrain model for display during flight simulation.

  • Patent number: 4538992
Abstract: The disclosure describes an image pick-up assembly for use in a vehicle training simulators and the assembly has an optical system to detect images in a direction of travel and to transmit these images to an electronic camera. A terrain-following head unit is formed to traverse a terrain model and contains the optical system. A gimbal joint couples the terrain-following head unit with the electronic camera to permit relative universal movement between the two. Releasable locking device is described to lock the terrain-following head unit in an operating position relative to the electronic camera so that it is releasable by a force when the terrain-following head unit engages an obstacle on the terrain model.

  • Patent number: 4276702
Abstract: A flight simulator instrument trainer has operational controls and instruments similar to a conventional aircraft. An AC driven position simulator moves a simulated station position according to simulated power, attitude, flap condition direction and distance traveled to control simulated ADF, ILS and VOR instruments. Angularly offset phases are generated and are provided to potentiometers on directional instruments. Wipers on the potentiometers move with simulated direction indicators. Signals from the wipers are fed to other devices, and phases are compared with one of two ninety degree offset reference phases. The latter are shifted according to simulated flight characteristics, and the thus-varied output of the phase comparators are used to drive instruments and to shift angle position accumulators and distance position accumulators.
