Abstract: An aid for use in instruction within the hairdresser profession includes a template-like piece of plate or sheet material on which there is drawn a head shape seen from the front, from the rear or in profile, i.e. right and left profile. Hair in the form of one or more hair tresses is glued or adapted to be attached with at a root portion thereof along a line on the head shape. The sheet material may be in the format A4 and preferably is transparent.

Abstract: A method of testing a plurality of hair strands (locks) with chemical formulations, either with cut and taped (at root end) hair strands, or with hair strands wrapped on a rod or roller, securely fastened in the clip of a small folding clipboard Tester, comprising a clip at the top of a dark colored inside back surface of Tester for testing, examining and comparing hair strand samples, and a vertically hinged light colored front, for when this light color facilitates examination; there being 1/2 inch space between clip and cover to lift strands onto cover while still fastened in clip. Keeping records of the multiple strands, clients, tests, products, formulations, timings, desires and results involving a complete multiple Hair Test Record Card, its reverse side having a release or waiver; which is incorporated in a transparent pocket on the inside back of the cover, which also has a small identification card and pocket for student or owner.

Abstract: A previewer provides for the dynamic viewing of an article desired to be worn by the user in a complete series of poses without actually trying on the article. The image of the article is computer generated, and a large plurality of articles are available for previewing. The user pre-records, or creates in realtime, a series of poses which are time-framed and position orientation coded, which coded information is read by the computer and the computer generated article image is then re-imaged in accordance with the accessed coded information, and the re-imaged article image and the user video image are then video mixed, optically mixed, or superimposed in digital image storage memory, so that a user plus article composite image may be viewed by the user. The previewer is useful for previewing various articles or accessories, or combinations thereof, such as eyeglasses, hats, hairstyles, wigs, make-up, cosmetic surgical changes, clothing, furnishings, and automobile accessories.

Abstract: A device for displaying permanent wave or hair curling rods and the curls produced by them is disclosed for use in both professional hair styling salons and the home. This device includes a support, such as a ring or frame work, to which are attached permanent wave rods or curlers representative of the sizes used in the industry. On each rod or curler is a lock of hair processed to show the size and tightness of the curl resulting from use of that particular rod or curler. When attached to a framework type of support the rods and their curls are arranged to represent the relationship between the several sizes of curls and lengths of hair that result in a layered look hairstyle.

Abstract: A mannequin head form having human or artificial hair in which the hair bearing surfaces are marked to permit demonstration of hairdressing techniques by an instructor and to guide a student in learning and practicing such techniques. Respective ones of a group of head forms may have markings and indicia to show: areas for blocking for permanent waving; shapes and loctions of curls; direction of finger and tool placement for waving and the like; directions for partitioning the hair for cutting, parting, bleaching, and coloring; and other general or specialized instructional markings. The markings and indicia are visible to the user as the hair is manipulated.

Abstract: A demonstration head model for different styles of coiffures includes a head model body and a plurality of pattern elements which are attached to the surface of the model body. The pattern elements may be formed as sheet elements preliminary cut in accordance with a predetermined length and shape corresponding to locks of hair being cut. The pattern elements may also be formed in the form of curlers. By positioning the pattern elements in a predetermined order on a catching band which covers the outer surface of the head model one can receive all the necessary information about the mode of performing a certain hair-cut or hair-setting.

Abstract: An aid for hairdressers comprises a model scalp, a set of sheets each of which is in use attached along one edge to the scalp and means indicating the location on the scalp at which each sheet is to be attached. When correctly attached to the scalp each sheet has a free edge opposite the edge attached to the scalp showing the line along which hair should be cut.

Abstract: A method and machine for trying on a hair form in image, in which a hair pattern portion is deleted from a face shape to be fitted by a hair pattern, and the face shape with the hair pattern thereon is displayed. In the machine, the hair pattern and the face shape with a mask for masking the hair pattern portion on it are arranged optically in symmetrical positions with respect to a half-mirror, and the face shape with the hair pattern thereon is taken through the half-mirror by a video camera. In the method, the hair pattern and the face shape are taken by the camera to obtain first and second signals by which the face shape with the hair pattern thereon is formed and then is displayed.

Abstract: A fashion previewing system having improved optical and color characteristics for allowing the previewing of various hair styles and colors, and other fashion items. The previewing system utilizes a slide projector for projecting a hair style in realistic color onto a rear projection screen. Forward of the screen is a lens, coated on the projector side of the lens with an anti-reflective coating, and coated on the opposite side thereof with a partially reflective coating. The outer surface of the lens with the partially reflective coating thereon is convex so as to reflect the facial image of the viewer back to the viewer. The inner surface of the lens is flat or curved in cooperation with the outer surface to make the hair style projected by the projector visible to the viewer in proper proportion to the reflected facial image. The slides containing the hair style and color to be projected are preferably characterized by a blackened face and neck region and an appropriate background color.
