Abstract: A loop back type clockspring connector includes a first housing section and a second housing section that are rotatable with respect to each other. The first housing section and second housing section define an accommodating space. Within the accommodating space, the clockspring connector includes two or more flexible cables and two or more guiding mechanisms. The cables conduct current from one housing section to the other. The guiding mechanisms divide the accommodating space into inner and outer portions where the cable accumulates as the housing sections rotate relative to one another. The guiding mechanisms move radially inwardly and outwardly within the accommodating space as the cable accumulates with the inner and outer spaces, thereby reducing the potential for the flexible cables to bind up during operation of the connector.

Abstract: A cable reel includes a fixed body, configured to attach to a steering column, and a movable body, rotatably connected to the fixed body and configured to rotate interlockingly with a steering wheel. The fixed body includes a peripheral wall, which defines a cut-out portion at an upper end. A flat cable, electrically connected to the fixed body and the movable body, is wound in an annular hollow portion defined between the fixed body and the movable body. An annular elastic sheet, formed on a surface of the movable body above the hollow portion, has an outer diameter that exceeds the inner diameter of the peripheral wall. Therefore, a peripheral end of the elastic sheet extends past the inner diameter into the cut-out portion of the peripheral wall. An edge portion of the flat cable is thus covered by the elastic sheet during rotation of the movable body.

Abstract: An escape groove (26), which is in the shape of an end-closed annulus having its center disposed on an axis of a steering shaft (1), is formed in an upper surface of a rotating case of a SRC (7). A convex portion (9) is formed on a bottom portion (3a) of a steering wheel (3), and the convex portion (9) is received in the escape groove (26).
