  • Patent number: 6511334
Abstract: A birdcage-shaped harness assembly adaptable for electrically connecting a bulkhead support structure with a rotatable gimbal support structure. In order to avoid excessive torsional forces from acting on the harness, a plurality of conductor portions are bundled together and pre-compressed in length between the support structures. When assembled, the conductor portions of the harness assembly form a birdcage-shaped dynamic bundle wherein the middle of the conductor portions bow away from conductor portions on the opposite side of the bundle. This pre-compression creates a birdcage-shaped configuration that allows the bundle to bend as the conductor portions straighten. This occurs when the gimbal rotates relative to the bulkhead. The bending motion creates relatively little damage to the conductor strands as compared the excessive torsion forces affecting conventional loop-shaped wire harness assemblies.

Abstract: A flexible cable is constructed in a band-like shape by sandwiching a plurality of conductive wires with a pair of insulating films, and a lead block is constructed by fixing a plurality of joint bars to a resin body. In a connecting structure of the flexible cable and the lead block, a part of one of the insulating films is removed so that the conductive wires are exposed at an end of the flexible cable. In addition, through holes for preventing deformation are formed in the remaining insulating film at positions between the exposed parts of the conductive wires. The exposed parts of the conductive wires are connected to the joint bars at positions close to the through holes by ultrasonic welding.

Abstract: A twistable electrical connector for computer periphery devices in the form of an interface which allows the user to turn the connector at least ninety degrees, such that one can fit the device into places a standard connector will not fit. A left part of the device functions as a standard connector, and a right part contains a retaining disk integrated into the section that is generally rear of a standard connector. The retaining disk functions to maintain connector integrity while allowing the left and right sections to rotate at least ninety degrees with respect to one another. In the preferred mode, a flexible, semi-rigid plastic pipe separates the diversified connector types and extends the twistable connector. Both ends could be any type of interface, as determined by items required. The twistable connector may engage a provider that represents a type of interface connector or advanced design of the typical connector.
