With Sealing Element Or Material For Cooperation With Coupled Connector, E.g., Gasket Patents (Class 439/271)
  • Publication number: 20110059639
Abstract: Connector assemblies for use to concurrently transmit multiple signals or sources. The connector assemblies are generally formed by coupling a plurality of ring contacts, sealing rings, and spring contact elements together with at least one holding ring to form a connector having a common bore for receiving a lead cable. Contact grooves or spring chambers for positioning the spring contact elements are formed in part by assembling multiple components together. The connector assemblies may be used in a number of industries and applications.

Abstract: This patent discloses an improved multi-pin electrical connector for use in wet environments. Multi-pin connectors are widely used. In some uses, the connectors may be exposed to water. The improved connector keeps external water from entering the connector and isolates any water inside the connector. A number of improvements are disclosed, including seals for the pins, seals for the wires exiting the back of the connector, and bonding internal insulator materials. The invention also incorporates an improved female receptacle design that provides a better male-to-female connection, thus improving performance of the connector. The multi-pin connector disclosed is suitable for use in almost any wet environment.

  • Patent number: 7901233
Abstract: An electrical connector forms electrical contact by tightening of a movable, electrically-conductive spiral around un-insulated wire or wires. The spiral coils around the wire multiple times and tightens on the wire(s) when either one or the other end, or both ends, of the spiral is/are rotated relative to the other. One region of the spiral is preferably fixed to an insulating housing, while another region of the spiral may be rotated for the tightening on the wire and then preferably latched to the housing so that the spiral remains in the tightened condition. A terminal end may extend from the spiral, or connectors without a terminal end may be used to electrically connect wires to each other that extend from and to other equipment not located on the connector itself. Multiple spirals may be provided in one connector, including spirals that tighten around separate wires at opposite ends of the connector.

When this arc element experiences pressure, it will mechanically relay the force caused by the pressure only to that section of the perimeter of the socket-plug interface that it is arranged to seal. It will not relay mechanical forces any further. This way, the mechanical effect of any extra asymmetric pressure will simply be limited to increasing the pressure of the seal in the perimeter section of that particular sealing element, thereby tightening the seal further still. This allows the socket opening to be sealed in a water- and/or airtight manner even in asymmetric pressure conditions, both when there is no plug in the socket and also when a plug is inside the socket.

The guide projections (58) guide a shielding tube (71) of a shielding shell (70) in position with respect to the wire-deriving tube (52). Therefore in fixing the shielding shell (70) to a connector-mounting member (40), an inner peripheral surface of the shielding tube (71) contacts the guide projections (58) of the wire-side housing (51) to fit the shielding shell (70) on the wire-side housing (51) without dislocation.

Abstract: A connector has a housing with a fit-on tube that can fit in a hood of a mating connector. Terminal fittings are fixed to ends of wires and are held by the housing. A sealing ring is mounted on an annular holding groove on a peripheral surface of the fit-on tube and is disposed between the peripheral surface of the fit-on tube and an inner surface of the hood to seal a gap therebetween. Engaging grooves are formed in the peripheral surface of the fit-on tube. The engaging grooves intersect the annular holding groove and are deeper than a bottom surface of the annular holding groove. Rotation-stopping projections project from the sealing ring to extend along a direction in which the engaging grooves extend and each has an engaging claw that can fit on a bottom of one of the engaging grooves.

Abstract: Multiple seals, internal to a connector block, provide for connecting an implantable medical device and an implanted cable or lead. The forces to engage sealing or releasing the seal are derived from a mechanism so they can be relaxed to permit ease of insertion or withdrawal of a lead, or can be increased to tightly seal against fluid migration, and to provide an electrical insulation between adjacent conductors of the lead and connector block. During implant of the medical device, the lead is inserted and a shaft is rotated with a tool to engage the seals. Later, the seals can be released by rotating the control shaft in the opposite direction to allow extraction of the lead from the connector block. The seals therefore are able to provide improved sealing without increasing the insertion or the extraction forces for the lead.

The plug assembly may be installed over a terminated USB connector and provides additional shielding for the USB connector, thereby allowing the USB connector to be used in military, aerospace, industrial or other applications in which signal degradation is a concern. The plug assembly is easily installed in the field, as the plug adapter assembly may be preassembled during manufacture. The plug assembly also provides sealing for the USB connector which allows the USB connector to be used in environmental conditions which are not conducive to the longevity of an unprotected connector.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for transmitting information between a device within a housing to a second device, preferably a test or monitoring unit, outside of the housing. There are numerous issues associated with transferring information from within a sealed housing to an external device. In some cases, the use of wires inside the housing may be impractical, due to internal conditions, such as fluid flow, pressure or temperature. In one embodiment, the antenna of the external RF reading device is electrically connected to the dome of the housing. In another embodiment, the device within the housing is electrically connected to a housing component. In another embodiment, the gasket is used to pass information from within the housing to an external device.
