  • Patent number: 6607395
Abstract: The present invention allows easy mounting of the lower daughter board or card in a card edge connector assembly in which two cards are stacked. The sub-assembly (19) is attached via an upper or second pair of latch members (8) to the supporting shafts (22) that protrude from both ends of the housing (6) which is long in the lateral direction. Projecting or supporting parts (82) are caused to protrude outward from both ends of the rear part of the housing (6), so that the sub-assembly (19) is maintained in an open state. The lower or first daughter board (96) is inserted at an inclination into the lower accommodating recess (4) as shown in FIG. 6(A), and is pressed downward as indicated by the arrow (C), so that the first daughter board (96) is attached to the lower or first pair of latch members (10).

  • Patent number: 6607394
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and apparatus for hot-pluggable electronic component connection. In one embodiment of the present invention, ground and power line couplings with a system are formed by moving the component in one direction while signal line couplings with the system are formed by moving the component in another direction. In one embodiment, a guide rail system causes a hot-pluggable component to move in a direction which couples, first, the ground line and, then, the power lines to the system. After the ground and power lines are connected, the guide rail system causes the component to move in another direction which couples the signal lines to the system. In another embodiment, a latching mechanism holds the component in place once the signal lines are coupled to the system. In this embodiment, an ejection system releases the latching mechanism and allows removal of the component.

Abstract: An FPC (Flexible Printed Circuit) connector includes a housing defining a central slot and conductive contacts having opposite branches retained in the housing on opposite sides of the central slot. A stuffer bar is received in the central slot and is movable between a withdrawn position and an engaged position. The stuffer bar has finger grips on opposite ends thereof for being gripped by fingers of a user to apply a driving force to move the stuffer bar with respect to the housing. The stuffer bar has a flat surface on which a flexible circuit is positioned whereby when the stuffer bar is moved to the engaged position, a normal force is applied by the flat surface of the stuffer bar to the flexible circuit for engaging a conductive pattern of the flexible circuit with the corresponding contacts. A recess is formed in a middle portion of the flat surface of the stuffer bar whereby the middle portion of the stuffer bar is free of normal force acting upon the flexible circuit.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for routing all external connection points of a double-sided edge connector of a circuit card to one side of a test tray suitable for testing with a bed of nails, “pogo pin” or similar type of load board for functional testing of said circuit card. A first embodiment of the apparatus includes a pivotally mounted or snap-in removable electrical and mechanical receptacle with a slot or socket suitable for holding a double-sided edge connector of a circuit card in a test tray. The receptacle pivots or is otherwise mounted in the test tray to allow the circuit card to lie co-planar with the test tray, thus providing perpendicular contact to the pins of a bed of nails load board. Another embodiment provides a fixed receptacle mounted vertically that routes all edge connector traces to the bottom surface of the test tray, again, suitable for engaging with a bed of nails-type test board.

  • Patent number: 6193557
Abstract: An electrical connector provides for the connection of the contact pads of an IC card to conductive elements of a printed circuit board. The connector includes a base supportable on the printed circuit board and at least one elastomeric element assembled within the base and aligned with upper and lower surfaces thereof. The base provides at least one retention tooth from which an IC card is easily withdrawn using a blunt implement, thereby obviating the need for a separate cover to retain the card in the device. The base also provides two additional fingers which bias inward against a side of a card and transversely apply forces on the card in order to annul the width differences among different cards. The elastomeric element is fabricated from a polymer which facilitates electrical interconnection between the element and the contacts on the SIM card. The elastomeric element replaces metal contacts which are widely utilized in conventional IC card readers.

The latching device includes a plastic retaining member integrally formed with the housing and a metal release member assembled to the retaining member. A daughter board engages with a slot defined in the housing and is rotated downward whereby resilient portions of the retaining member move outward until the daughter board is fully received in the slot. To disengage the daughter board from the connector an outward force is exerted on release pads of the release member. The resilient portions are moved outward to abut against corresponding first stoppers formed on the retaining member. At this position, an embossment extending from each retaining member will abut against a corresponding second stopper of the release member. The provision of the stoppers effectively prevents breakage of the resilient portions while disengaging a daughter board from the connector.
