Curved Conductor Path Patents (Class 439/456)
  • Patent number: 5011430
Abstract: An electrical connector assembly for terminating flat multiconductor ribbon cable is disclosed. The connector assembly includes a base supporting plural insulation-piercing contacts in a pre-determined array. A cover, positioned over the base, is movable with respect thereto to effect cable termination to the contacts. Cable strain relief is provided by spring clips which urge an extent of cable against a side wall of the cover.

  • Patent number: 4988831
Abstract: A strain relief apparatus for relieving strain on a cable of an electrical device having a housing with a notched-out portion therein. The strain relief apparatus is generally planar and is mounted directly into the notched-out portion. The strain relief apparatus has a U-shaped channel which is dimensioned to provide an interference fit with the cable after the cable is mounted therein. The design of the strain relief apparatus introduces bends in the cable to further facilitate strain relief if, for example, the cable is accidentally jerked or pulled.

  • Patent number: 4875875
Abstract: A modular connector for field termination of an electrical cable containing a plurality of individually insulated conductors and having a body, a contact carrier in snap-in assembly with the body and a cover assembly for snap-in assembly with the body in the field and including a cover and a cable strain relief member attached to the cover by a living hinge. The cable strain relief member is arranged for snap-in assembly with the body in the field. A stuffing member carried by the cover sets each conductor in an associated contact of IDC type mounted on the contact carrier as the cover is snapped into assembly with the body. A blade mounting on the contact carrier cooperates with a shearing member depending from the cover to trim the free ends of the conductor during cover assembly. Assembly of the cover with the body also applies strain relief to the cable and each of the conductors and also deflects the trimmed conductors away from the shearing blade.

  • Patent number: 4858271
Abstract: A wheeled vacuum cleaner is provided with an extension projecting upward from a base on which an electric motor powered suction producing device and a floor engaging nozzle are mounted. A handle unit mounted on the upper end of the extension is provided with an anchor that constitutes a strain relief about which a line cord for energizing the motor is looped. A hand operated safety trigger device controls energization of the motor. Pivotally connected to the base is a stand that is movable between a storage position and an active floor engaging position wherein the vacuum cleaner is supported by the stand. The stand is mounted and proportioned so as to be gravity operated automatically to the storage position where it is held by a releasable spring catch while the vacuum cleaner is being used.

  • Patent number: 4846723
Abstract: An improved structure of new type cord outlet is formed by an outer shell, an inner socket and a pair of conductor terminal pieces. The two conductor terminal pieces are installed into conductor terminal grooves. The terminal grooves are provided with long flanges which are received within inverted "U" shaped portions of the terminals. Short flanges are also provided to contact the wire crimp portion of the terminals. The wires are folded through a plurality of wire grooves to form a strain relief. The inner socket is provided with hook shaped latch fingers to lockingly mate with wedge shaped projections in the outer shell to form a tight assembled structure. Having the property of being tight, the improved structure of this new type cord outlet is not easily loosened. Thus, providing a durable long lasting device.

  • Patent number: 4821161
Abstract: A light fixture suitable for attachment without a junction box is shaped as a one piece thermoplastic cylindrical receptacle with one end closed. An inner surface of the closed end forms an axially extending molded socket in which a bulb screwshell is centrally disposed and to which a light reflector is attached. At the outer surface of the closed end is a circular cavity containing all the electrical connections, including the contacts, the wire terminals and the cord guides for holding an electrical cord in position. Conductive metal strips connect the contacts and the wire terminals and are recessed in the circular cavity. The cavity is covered by a cap with a protruding annular rib which when fastened bends the electrical cord supported by the cord guides into clamping engagement with the outer surface of the closed end for securing the cord against pull and strain forces on the wire connectors.

  • Patent number: 4815837
Abstract: The actuator unit housing for a rearview mirror includes two electric motors for tilting a mirror element in an actuator unit, and a drive transmission, and means for foldably supporting a mirror element on the upper surface of the actuator housing. A guide inlet for inserting an electric supply and control harness line of the motors is formed in the actuator unit housing. Since the guide inlet is composed of a plurality of lateral slits with labyrinths, the movement of the harness line occurred when the actuator is assembled or repaired can be suppressed. When a connector socket is buried in the slit, the socket is positioned by the labyrinth, and even if an external force by engaging a plug piece is applied, the socket can be stably held.

  • Patent number: 4728836
Abstract: A mounting arrangement for connecting strand connectors to a stator winding of an electric motor utilizes axially aligned pockets in an end mounting plate of the stator, into which the connectors are inserted. A cover plate is then lockedly mounted onto a control portion of the end mounting plate, and together with the end plate defines a tortuous path for the strand connectors, wherein the connectors axially leaving the pockets are first bent radially outward, then bent back to the original axial direction and then bent radially outwardly again. This tortuous bending path provides for strain elimination at the point of connection of the connectors to the stator inside the pockets.
