Abstract: Connector systems include electrical connectors orthogonally connected to each other through shared through-holes in a midplane. An orthogonal vertical connector includes jogged contacts to offset for or equalize the different length contacts in the right-angle connector to which the vertical connector is connected. A first contact in the right angle connector may mate with a first contact in the vertical connector. A second contact in the right angle connector may mate with a second contact in the vertical connector. The first contact in the right angle connector may be greater in length than the adjacent second contact of the right angle connector. Thus, the second contact of the vertical connector may be jogged by the distance to increase the length of the second contact by the distance.

  • Patent number: 7192307
Abstract: An electrical connector is adapted for mounting onto a panel having an opening and slots formed along the opening. A mating connector is disposed within the panel. The connector includes a housing having projections configured and disposed to engage the panel opening, corresponding projections and slots properly aligning the connector with the panel opening. Once the connector engages the panel opening, the connector is moved so that the connector projections are misaligned with the panel opening, preventing removal of the connector from the panel opening. A latch slidably engaged along the connector housing is actuated to a latched position so that the latch is positioned within the panel opening, preventing relative movement of the connector with respect to the panel. The latch cannot be removed from the connector by actuating the latch from a latched to an unlatched position.

  • Patent number: 7168978
Abstract: An electrical connector for mounting to a panel includes a connector housing having a forward mating end and a first side. The housing is configured to be inserted into a panel opening that has an inner edge. The housing is inserted into the panel opening in a loading direction and is movable laterally relative to the panel opening in a latching direction to a latched position. The latching direction differs from the loading direction. A latch member includes a latch beam extending from the first side of the housing and a latch element is positioned on a forward facing surface of the latch beam. The latch element engages the inner edge of the panel opening when the housing is in the latched position to hold the housing in the latched position. A stop member is formed on the first side of the housing. The stop member is positioned to engage a rearward facing surface of the latch beam to inhibit removal of the housing from the panel opening while in the latched position.

  • Patent number: 7054442
Abstract: An adapter for connection to telephone lines to provide a filter for DSL connections to the telephone lines has pivoting latches that will engage existing studs on a wall mounted jack plate. The housing has a circuit board with a connector that will plug into the telephone jack on the wall mounted jack plate, and has outlet jacks for connection to remote equipment. The latches pivot between a released position wherein they clear the existing studs so that the housing can be placed against the existing wall mounted jack plate, and a latched position where the latches are held in place on the studs and the housing is supported on the existing jack plate. Studs provided on the housing replicate the position of the studs on the existing jack plate.

Abstract: An electrical connector system includes a panel having a front face, a rear face, a hole through which a connector can mate with a complementary connecting device at the front face of the panel, and an opening spaced from the hole. A connector includes a dielectric housing insertable into the hole in the panel and mateable with the complementary connecting device at the front face of the panel. The housing mounts a plurality of terminals and is sized smaller than the hole to allow for controlled floating movement of the connector relative to the panel. At least one locking arm projects from the housing and has a locking protrusion for engagement in the opening in the panel to prevent excessive movement of the connector in a direction generally parallel to the panel. The opening is larger than the locking protrusion to allow for said controlled floating movement of the connector relative to the panel.

Abstract: Supporting pieces (42) on side surfaces of a waiting-side connector (20) are insertable into supporting grooves (15) of a casing (10). Contact projections (47F, 47R) are on one outer wall surface (46) of each supporting piece near the upper end and bottom ends. A squeezable projection (55) is on an outer wall surface (44) opposite from the outer wall surface (46) where the contact projections (47) are provided. The squeezable projection (55) has a substantially triangular cross section and contacts a wall surface (13A) of the supporting groove (15) as insertion of the supporting piece (42) into the supporting groove (15) progresses. A tip of the squeezable projection (55) is squeezed at a final stage of the insertion to engage the supporting piece (42) with the supporting groove (15). Accordingly, the waiting-side connector (20) is supported in the casing (10) without shaking.

  • Patent number: 6957979
Abstract: The present invention is a pawl latch which is adapted to be mounted to a first member, such as a closure panel of drawer face plate for releasably retaining the closure panel against an enclosure. Such drawer is suitable for implementing an electronic module which plugs into the backplane of the enclosure. The latch has spring-assisted engagement and disengagement of its pawl with the edge of an enclosure opening against which the pawl operates. This results in spring-assisted inject and eject functions for connecting and disconnecting any associate backplane connection. The latch is low profile with a narrow footprint and has an EMI and ESD event preventive coating on the surface of the housing and appropriate components thereof. A pull handle is substantially flush with the outside face of the latch housing and cooperates with a button spring activator member, when the handle is in the closed position.
