Hinged Or Flexed Detent On Insulation Engaging To Secure Contact Within Coupling Part Housing Patents (Class 439/595)
  • Patent number: 7695315
Abstract: A stacked electrical connector formed by mating an upper and a lower housing having rows of cavities containing terminals is disclosed. The upper and lower housings have primary terminal assurance provided by lances integrally formed into the housings. A secondary terminal assurance system is provided to further secure the terminals within the housings. In one embodiment, secondary terminal assurance is to terminals in the upper housing by lower housing protrusions and to terminals in the lower housing by a hinge. In another embodiment, secondary terminal assurance is provided to terminals in the upper and lower housing by upper and lower protrusions of a lock plate.

Abstract: Retaining projections are formed on and project outwardly in a right-left direction respectively from right and left side walls of a spacer. The retaining projections are used for achieving a provisionally-retained condition and a completely-retained condition of the spacer. When the side walls are elastically deformed, the retaining projections slide over respective retaining portions of a connector housing to thereby achieve the retained condition. The side walls which can be elastically deformed inwardly in the forward-rearward direction form portions of right and left outermost terminal passage holes, and therefore must hold respective metal terminals, respectively. Therefore, holding projections are formed on and project inwardly in the right-left direction respectively from the side walls. These terminal holding projections serve to hold the respective metal terminals in predetermined positions.

Abstract: An electrical connector assembly includes a housing having more than one cavity extending along an insertion axis for inserting a connector in each of the more than one cavity. The housing has a slot extending perpendicular to the insertion axis and the housing has a locking chamber therethrough including a first section and a wider second section. A retention lock is inserted into the slot and held within the housing. The retention lock has a split center post with a top latch and the retention lock passes through the locking chamber so that the top latch locks within the wider second section of the locking chamber. The retention lock locks each of the more than one connector within each cavity.

On both ends in the terminal arranging direction of a connector body is provided a temporary holding member which is elastically deformed upward in contact with an upper face of a flexible cable inserted into the connector body and recovered while urging the flexible cable downward when a notch portion of the flexible cable is fitted with the lock portion. By this, when each of the notch portions of the flexible cable is fitted with each of the lock portions, the feeling that the flexible cable urged by the temporary holding member is fitted with each of the lock portions while being pressed downward can be obtained through the flexible cable.
