  • Patent number: 7642465
Abstract: An elbow terminator has a socket in which an electrical probe is disposed. The terminator is insertable onto an electrical bushing such that a tongue of the bushing is received in the socket of the terminator, and the probe of the terminator is electrically coupled to a contact sleeve disposed within the tongue. A latching mechanism produces positive latching between the tongue and socket when the tongue has been inserted to a predescribed depth within the socket. In order to enable an operator to visually observe that the tongue has been inserted to the prescribed depth, the bushing carries a color band which becomes completely disposed (invisible) in the socket when positive latching occurs. Alternatively, the bushing can be provided with gauge tabs which become aligned with a witness line formed on the terminator when positive latching occurs.

Thus, if an upward force acts on the female connector (20), the engaging projections (28) contact the engageable portions (18) and this force is borne by the lower reinforcing ribs (17S). In other words, since the upward force acting on the female connector (20) is borne by both upper and lower walls (13U, 13S) of a receptacle (13), the upper wall (13U) can be made thinner as compared to the case where this force acts only on the upper wall (13U). The inventive squib connector is adapted to be used for an inventive connection system between a squib connector and a complementary squib holder, said connection system has one locking means (134, 135, 211) and one unmating means (180), said locking means being adapted to be automatically actuated by the consolidation of the squib connector with the squib holder for automatically and securely locking the squib connector and the squib holder in fully mated condition and to be deactivated by the selective actuation of the unmating means necessary for separating the squib connector and the squib holder.

Abstract: A grounding structure is provided in an electrical connector, which includes contacts, a housing, a shell, and a ground terminal or a ground lug. The shell has a through-hole communicating with a fitting groove, an installing groove, and a connection portion groove, and the through-hole has an inserting groove into which the ground terminal is inserted, a screw portion for holding the ground terminal, a spacing groove for avoiding any interference with the ground lug integrally mounted on the housing, and an engaging portion to engage a locking portion of the housing. Both the ground lug and the ground terminal are constructed to become electrically conductive with the same shell, respectively, so that grounding is effected by either of the ground lug integrally mounted on the housing and the separately provided ground terminal. It is thus possible to select one contact or the separate ground terminal with respect to the same shell for grounding.
