    Abstract: Connector assembly comprises an outer housing and an inner housing which is inserted into the outer housing. The inner housing has terminal receiving cavities which extend between its ends and which open onto one of the sides of the inner housing along the full width thereof as measured between the ends. The terminals are inserted into the cavities by aligning the terminals with the cavities and moving them laterally of their axes into their cavities. After assembly of the terminals to the cavities, the inner housing is assembled to the outer housing.

    Abstract: A blind mate shielded input/output connector assembly is disclosed for use in the robotic assembly of an electrical component, such as a radio, to electrical conductors, such as electrical wires in a harness in an automobile. The connector assembly includes a header which can be fixedly mounted to the electrical component and which includes an alignment post protruding beyond printed circuit board pins located in the header. A receptacle module includes cavities for receiving multi-contact electrical connectors and an alignment cavity into which the alignment post can be inserted. The receptacle module is mounted to a carrier panel beyond which conductors in the harness extend so that the receptacle module can move in any direction within the plane of the panel, thus permitting alignment during straight line movement of the header toward the panel. The receptacle module can also be used to provide EMI shielding and a filter can be mounted in the header.

    Abstract: An electrical connector with an openable cover. The front half of an upper wall of the connector housing is removed to provide an opening with a slide cover provided for covering the opening. A peep notch is formed in the front edge of the upper wall of the connector. The slide cover is configured such that in a closed position a peep gap appears between the rear edge of the slide cover and the front top edge of the connector housing. A retainer mechanism is provided on the cover which comprises an angular projection formed on the slide cover and having a guide surface, and a retainer projection formed on the lower surface of the front edge of the housing whereby the retainer projection is guided by the guide surface to be engaged with the angular projection locking the slide cover in its closed position. A resilient, cantilever type, retainer piece is provided for insuring a positive, locked seating with a mating connector.
