Abstract: A retainer (40) has left and right pivotally displaceable locking pieces (47) and is held at a partial locking position on a housing (30) by the engagement of engageable portions (50) at the leading ends of the locking pieces (47) with partial locking projections (31) on the housing (30). Abstract: A connector has a housing (10) with cavities (11) for receiving terminal fittings (40). Locks (17) lock the terminal fittings (40) in the cavities (11) and serve also as partition walls (20) between cavities (11) for the miniaturization of the connector. Upside-down insertion preventing portions (46) are provided on the terminal fittings (40), but are disposed so as not to interfere with the corresponding lock (17). The upside-down insertion preventing portions (46) also do not interfere with the lock (17) of the adjacent cavity (11) even if both the upside-down insertion preventing portion (46) and the lock (17) are near the front end and are on opposite sides. Since the upside-down insertion preventing portions (46) and the locks (17) are near the front end, inserting resistance is low and an earlier detection of upside-down insertion is realized.

Abstract: Contacts (12) that are terminated to the front ends of wires (22) are rapidly mounted in a connector shell (20) while assuring reliable separation of the contacts. After each contact is terminated to the front end of a wire, the contact is laid in a slot (60) of an insulative retainer (50). The retainer is then inserted forwardly between top and bottom arms (70, 72) of the rear portion (64) of an insulative body, while the contacts project into passages (14) in the front portion of the body. The assembly of retainer and body is inserted into the shell (20) that has a cylindrical inner surface (110) that radially positions the retainer between the arms of the body. A crimp barrel (122) is moved forwardly into the shell to about the rear of the retainer, a braiding (34) of a cable that contains the wires is folded back around the crimp barrel, and the rear portion (120) of the shell is crimped around the braiding and crimp barrel.

  • Patent number: 6764352
Abstract: Properly inserted terminal fittings (40) are engaged and locked by locks (20) returned to their free states. A retainer (30) mounted into a housing (10) then enters deformation spaces (26) for the locks (20). The retainer (30) presses and deforms the locks (20) from their free states toward the terminal fittings (40). Thus, areas of engagement of the locks (20) and the terminal fittings (40) are increased. Additionally, the degree of the resilient deformation of the locks (20) in the inserting process of the terminal fittings (40) is low and resistance acting when the terminal fittings (40) are inserted is suppressed.

Abstract: An engagement portion 24 of a locking member 5, which is inserted through a locking member insertion hole 10 into a connector housing 2, is engaged with the connector housing 2. Additionally, a connector terminal 4 accommodated in a connector housing 2 is locked with the locking member 5. The locking member 5 includes a pair of fitting pieces 12, each of which is provided with said engagement portion 24 and supported resiliently. An engagement release tool 27 is inserted into the connector housing 2 through an engagement release hole 25 provided on the connector housing 2. Then, the engagement release tool 27 deflects the fitting piece 12 to release an engagement of the engagement portion 24 of the fitting piece 12 with the connector housing 2.
