Patent number: 6568955Abstract: The present invention relates to an electrical connector which at least partially receives a foil with printed conductors embedded therein, and comprises an insulating housing with an insertion aperture for the foil and at least one foil contact with a contact section for contacting the printed conductors. The foil contact has a connection section for connection to an electric component and an actuating zone to receive mechanical pressure. To ensure reliable contacting and inexpensive production and simplified assembly of the components, the foil contact is bent as one piece from a punched spring sheet and has at its first contact arm an end section which is bent approximately to a U-shape, which can be brought into contact with the two contact arms by mechanical pressure. According to the invention, the connector also comprises an actuator to actuate this foil contact in which retaining webs are integrally formed which penetrate the foil when the actuator is closed.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2001Date of Patent: May 27, 2003Assignee: Tyco Electronics AMP GmbHInventors: Gheorghe Hotea, Claudius Rieder, Josef Woller

Patent number: 6537111Abstract: An electric contact plug receives a tip jack input at a plug-in zone, and completes the electrical connection via a connection zone to an electronic component, such as a printed circuit board. The electric contact plug also includes an intermediate zone, connected between the plug-in zone and the connection zone. The intermediate zone is designed to deform mechanically when the plug-in zone is subjected to vibrational stresses, as typically occur in a motor vehicle. As a result, the tip jack is held securely within the plug-in zone, while the intermediate zone absorbs the effects of the vibrational stresses. Thus, the inventive electric contact plug avoids the problems of friction and corrosion within the plug-in zone. Moreover, this electric contact plug is compatible with thick-wire bonding, and can be manufactured economically.Type: GrantFiled: May 22, 2001Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Assignee: Wabco GmbH and Co. Patent number: 6332815Abstract: The present invention is directed to an integrally formed clip ring made out of a conductive resilient material such as beryllium copper. The clip ring is used for retaining a male member and a female member of an electrical connector and for forming a ground circuit between the male member and the female member of the electrical connector. The clip ring of the present invention fully engages the outside diameter of the male retaining groove and the inside diameter of the female retaining groove simultaneously. Advantageously, this eliminates the potential for discontinuities in a ground circuit in a vibrational environment. The clip ring includes an annular-shaped body having an inner wall and an outer wall where the outer wall has a plurality of circumferentially spaced slots. The outer wall has a first end circumferentially spaced from a second end wherein when the clip ring is compressed a first end and a second end are brought into contact with each other.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1999Date of Patent: December 25, 2001Assignee: Litton Systems, Inc.Inventor: Burton B. Patent number: 6319076Abstract: A socket contact (1) for receiving a pin contact (4) of small diameter, especially a contact pin of a PCMCIA plug. The socket contact is formed of sheet metal and has a substantially flat base (5), a spacing part (6) extending upward from the front end of the base, and a top contact part (9) extending rearward from the top of the spacing part. The spacing part has a circular hole (7) for passing the pin contact until the pin contact is pressed upward by a tongue (8) formed in the base and is pressed downward by the top contact part. To prevent bending of the spacing part when the tongue and top contact part apply a large clamping force to the pin, the spacing part is formed with support regions (40, 42) where sheet metal at opposite sides of the spacing part are bent to extend rearwardly.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2000Date of Patent: November 20, 2001Assignee: ITT Manufacturing Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Martin Gollhofer, Wolfgang Haller
