Patent number: 7611550Abstract: Slurry fuels and associated methods are disclosed herein. One aspect of the invention is directed toward a slurry fuel that includes a liquid hydrocarbon based fuel suitable for use in an air-breathing power plant, metallic particles (e.g., boron), and a fluoropolymer (e.g., polytetrafluoroethylene). In selected embodiments the slurry fuel can further include a surfactant (e.g., polyolefin amide alkeneamine and/or Product NB463S84 produced by GE Betz, Inc.). Other aspects of the invention are directed toward a slurry fuel that includes a liquid hydrocarbon based fuel, metallic particles, and a surfactant having a composition that lowers the surface tension of the liquid hydrocarbon based fuel and reduces the tendency for the metallic particles to separate from the liquid hydrocarbon based fuel.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 2005Date of Patent: November 3, 2009Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: Lawrence E. Patent number: 6730139Abstract: A fuel rendering composition, an alternative supplemental fuel and a universal fuel treatment. Halogenated hydrocarbon(s) and solvent(s), particularly terpenoid containing solvent(s), are combined to form a composition that when mixed with vegetable oil, crude or refined, renders that oil suitable for use in a diesel engine. Various hydrocarbons, solvents and related compounds are disclosed. Providing a metal-organic compound such as a cyclopentadienyl compound with a halogenated hydrocarbon and solvent at appropriate rates produces a universal fuel treatment.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2002Date of Patent: May 4, 2004Inventors: Stephen R. Patent number: 5222323Abstract: Certain chemical elements or compounds, smog inhibitors, added to combustible hydrocarbon-base fuels, can reduce, or eliminate, ozone, O.sub.3, an oxidant necessary for the formation of smog and its irritants. A test program demonstrated that atmospheric ozone was reduced an average of about 75% when exhaust gases derived from an automotive engine burning fuel containing an inhibitor were injected into a sealed chamber as compared to the same engine burning fuel containing no additive. In each of the tests using the fuel additive, ozone concentrations approached, or reached, zero for short periods of time, indicating the viability of this method of ozone, and therefore smog, control. This patent is for the purpose of controlling smog formation by the addition of smog inhibitors, such as, but not limited to, iodine or its compounds to hydrocarbon-base fuels prior to, or during, the combustion cycle of these fuels.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 1990Date of Patent: June 29, 1993Inventor: William Lundby
