Operator Powered Drive For Propulsion Means Patents (Class 440/12.62)
  • Patent number: 9969226
Abstract: A bicycle and board apparatus comprising a buoyant board, a front wheel, a rear wheel and a steering member, and being mountable and usable in a first configuration as a bicycle in which the buoyant board is the bicycle's frame and in a second configuration as a surfboard by changing the orientation of the front wheel, the rear wheel or the steering member with respect to the buoyant board.

  • Patent number: 9061557
Abstract: An amphibious float system removably and nondestructively attached to a bicycle, having floats that raise and lower simultaneously on pivoting arms that swing longitudinally in a fore and aft arc and lock in place in a desired position by hand manipulable connections for transition between land and water travel without modification of the bicycle. The bicycle remains fully assembled and the lift arms provide ample clearance above land and water to keep the bicycle and rider fully out of the water for dry feet operation. The system carries everything with it to convert between multiple modes of operation, including as an amphibious bicycle, an amphibious water cycle, a conventional bicycle, and a pontoon boat. A self-engaging drive system and removably attached rudder aid in changeovers for repeated land and water evolutions, and both kick-up when encountering land or underwater obstructions.

  • Publication number: 20140120789
Abstract: A human powered aerodynamic amphibious recumbent vehicle having an outer shell that operates as the cycle exoskeleton, aerodynamic fairing, and boat hull. The vehicle includes a propulsion design adding paddles to the front drive wheels or pairing traditional pedaling to a propeller mounted on a kayak rudder via a flexible axle. Composite materials are used to form the vehicle and allow it to remain lightweight, abrasion tolerant, structurally rigid under rigorous operating conditions, and waterproof. The vehicle can enter and exit the water by riding directly in and out, or can be lifted by one person safely.

  • Publication number: 20130337706
Abstract: Disclosed is a bicycle for water and land including: a first floating means, which is provided on and rotates with a front wheel frame that rotates in conjunction with a handlebar, for unfolding on both sides by means of buoyancy to buoy the front wheel frame when entering water; a second floating means, which is provided on a rear wheel frame, for unfolding on both sides by means of buoyancy to buoy the rear wheel frame when entering water; and propellers, which are provided on a plurality of spokes that are installed on the rear wheel frame so that the surfaces face the direction in which the rear wheel rotates, for generating propelling force in water.

  • Publication number: 20100221963
Abstract: A vehicle for movement relative to a medium, the vehicle comprising a base, and a carriage mounted on the base for supporting a human operator, the carriage mounted for forward and rearward movement relative to the base upon being driven by bipedal movement of the operator, a thrust mechanism operable to develop vehicle thrust by transmitting a force to the medium upon bipedally driven rearward movement of the carriage and a force mechanism operable to apply a force to the base upon bipedally driven forward movement of the carriage.

  • Patent number: 6210242
Abstract: A pedal-powered watercraft comprises a unitary hull having an upper wall extending from a bow portion to a stern portion of the watercraft and a pair of spaced hollow sponsons located on either side of the upper wall. The upper wall together with inner walls of the sponsons form a tunnel that opens generally downwardly and extends from the bow portion to the stern portion of the watercraft. A deck is connected to the hull and includes an elongate opening that defines a cockpit area for receiving an occupant. A seat is located in the cockpit area and a pedal assembly is connected to the hull forwardly of the seat. The pedal assembly includes a pivotal pedal tower and a pair of pedals rotatably mounted on the pedal tower. The pair of pedals are operably connected to drive the propeller during pedal rotation.
