Both buoys are stowed proximate the anchor, and discharged into the water when the vessel main anchor is deployed. The reference buoy is substantially immobile upon deployment. The indicating buoy will move with the anchor, if the anchor has failed to be immobilized by solid engagement with the water bottom. Visual indication of this condition is provided by increasing distance between the indicating buoy and the reference buoy.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 1992Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Inventors: Joel Bleth, Barb A. Patent number: 5411424Abstract: A replaceable buoy cover or buoy sock includes a tubular, cylindrical sleeve which is closed at a top end by a cap. A lower end of the sleeve is provided with a cinch member. The buoy cover is removably secured to a buoy by sliding the sleeve over the buoy until the cap contacts the top of the buoy. The cinch member is tightened to frictionally secure the cover on the buoy. When replacement of the buoy cover is required, the cinch member is cut to release the cover, and the cover is removed and replaced with a new cover. The replaceable buoy cover may be provided in standard marker buoy colors and has standard symbols or markings applied thereto.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 1993Date of Patent: May 2, 1995Inventor: Jeffrey S. Patent number: 5350330Abstract: A floatation marker is provided for locating and identifying an anchor line. A float provides an interior surface formed as a frustum of a cone. The surface defines a central hole in the float. Preferably, the float provides for a sloped exterior surface so that, with the marker floating in water, the exterior surface is visible from an elevated position. Preferably the float is shaped as a modified torus. A passageway for the anchor line from outside of the float into the central hole of the float is provided so that the anchor line passes through the central hole. A passage block blocks the passage such that the anchor line cannot be passed back through the passage. The passage block may be a sleeve formed so as to fit loosely and slidably around the float so that in one position on the float the sleeve blocks the passage, while in another position on the float the sleeve does not block the passage.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1993Date of Patent: September 27, 1994Inventor: Gary W. Patent number: 5348502Abstract: A mounting bracket for retaining an EPIRB or similar buoy on a ship comprises a housing with a support frame pivotally mounted in the housing. The lower part of the frame has a peg engaging a recess in the underside of an enlarged central part of the buoy to prevent forward or downward movement. An upper part of the housing overhangs the upper end of the buoy to prevent upward displacement. The frame is pivoted at its lower end and is retained in the housing against the action of a spring by a hydrostatic pressure release. When the mount is submerged, the hydrostatic pressure release allows the spring to displace the frame out of the housing so that the buoy can float free. The frame is in two parts held together by a locking pin so that, when the pin is released, the buoy can be removed without releasing the hydrostatic release mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1993Date of Patent: September 20, 1994Assignee: Smiths Industries Public Limited CompanyInventor: Richard I.
