  • Patent number: 11104405
Abstract: An apparatus for creating on-command buoyancy is provided with an elastically deformable and axially elongated watertight hollow shell having a plurality of leaf springs and enveloped by a flexible skin. When flattened, the shell has a small internal volume and is negatively buoyant. The hollow shell is held in this position by a latch mechanism. When the mechanism is released, the leaf springs expand to increase the internal volume of the shell. In this state, the system is buoyant. A release mechanism for the latch bar is provided in a forward closure to permit transition from negatively buoyant to a buoyant configuration when an external signal is received.

  • Patent number: 8956196
Abstract: A bath apparatus for play and/or bathing having a reservoir, a plurality of substantially co-planar bottom release holes, and a top control aperture. Upon submerging the bath toy, water flows into the reservoir through the release holes as air escapes through the control aperture. When the control aperture is sealed with a thumb or finger and the toy is raised from the water, water in the reservoir is retained in the reservoir. When the control aperture is unsealed, water in the reservoir flows out through the release holes. The control aperture is offset from the top of the reservoir by approximately 12° to be ergonomically located and oriented to allow a thumb to produce an airtight seal when the reservoir is held in a single adult-size hand, or to allow a finger to produce an airtight seal when the reservoir is held by child-size hands in both hands.

By increasing or decreasing the buoyant force provided to the flexible frame by the buoyancy member, the user is able to position the swimming hoop at a desired vertical distance within a body of water. To increase or decrease the buoyant force, a pump is used to increase or decrease the level of air within an air chamber. The buoyancy member is adjustably secured to the flexible frame. The flexible frame may be generally circular, square, or any other shape, and is flexible such that other shapes can be further obtained by twisting or manipulating the flexible frame.
