Rotating Or Having Visible Rotating Portion (e.g., Spinning Or Whirling, Not Rolling) Patents (Class 446/236)
  • Patent number: 4695262
Abstract: A toy rotating gear accessory which may be used in conjunction with a gyroscopic top. The accessory has a supporting body with a number of apertures passing through it. One or more circular gears may be removably attached to the supporting body by segmented flexible members located on the top surfaces of the gears. The flexible members may be inserted into or slid out of the apertures in the supporting body by simply bending the members. After the gears are attached to the supporting body, they are free to rotate with respect to the body. Protuberances located on the top surface of each gear help to reduce friction between the gears and the supporting body. Supports located on the bottom surfaces of the gears support the accessory on a horizontal surface. During play, a child may insert the rotating portion of a gyroscopic top into a cylindrical bore located on the upper surface of one of the gears. This causes the gear to rotate and the entire accessory to rotate about the center of the gear.

  • Patent number: 4674988
Abstract: A toy for rotating or twirling a doll to simulate break-dancing. A main housing mounts a rotatable shaft having an upper portion that projects outwardly of the housing. A coupling element is secured to the projecting portion of the shaft, which coupling portion mates with a coupling element provided on a portion of an articulated doll. The shaft is rotatable by a disc, or fly-wheel, concentrically mounted about the shaft in the housing. A slot in a side edge surface of the housing allows for the insertion of a thumb or finger into the interior of the housing to thereby spin or rotate the disc, and therefore the doll.

  • Patent number: 4643692
Abstract: A domed spinning top is disclosed in which a vertically movable housing member having a transparent dome is mounted above a stationary base. A rotatable turntable is mounted on the housing member under the dome. An actuating mechanism acts upon a drive mechanism to engage the turntable and rotate it during vertical movement of the housing member toward the base. Upon cessation of vertical movement of the housing member toward the base, the actuating mechanism disengages the drive mechanism from the turntable to permit the turntable to rotate freely. A peek-a-boo enclosure comprising a plurality of shroud segments is mounted on the turntable in which the segments separate to expose a central figure during rapid rotation of the turntable, and return together to substantially encase the central figure when rotation of the turntable is diminished.

  • Patent number: 4641831
Abstract: Apparatus for controlling rotary motion wherein a bellows is fixed at one end to a support having a restricted vent opening and carries a crank at its opposite end linked to a stallable type motor, the motor moving the crank in a circular path controlled by the bellows between alternate fast and slow motion according to the change in length of the bellows.

  • Patent number: 4637152
Abstract: A rotary drive mechanism for toys, kinetic sculptures, and the like, employs a pawl and ratchet mechanism to transmit driving torque between a driving wheel and a driven inertia wheel. The driving wheel may itself be driven by means of a drive string that may frictionally engage a circular drive surface to permit the driving wheel to be rotated independently with limited slippage between the string and the drive surface. A fixed and uniform amount of energy can be imparted to the driving wheel and the driven wheel through a spring that is connected to the drive string and preloaded by a predetermined amount. A second inertia wheel can be mounted coaxially of the one inertia wheel and both wheels may operate with random motion through an interference coupling. The pawl and ratchet mechanism in one embodiment forms an escapement to provide intermittent drive to the wheels. The inertia wheel is rotationally unbalanced with a weight offset from the axis of rotation.

  • Patent number: 4636177
Abstract: A playing animal toy wherein a rotary vessel is mounted rotatably on a floor engaging member having a bottom surface. The rotary vessel has a projecting edge for touching the floor which is larger in diameter than the bottom surface and disposed above it. A toy is disposed movably back and forth within the rotary vessel and formed in imitation of a desired animal. The rotary vessel is moved by a swinging device to swing back and forth with the swinging motion of the toy so that one portion of the projected edge of the rotary vessel is brought in touch with floor.

  • Patent number: 4623318
Abstract: An animated figure toy (10) includes an upper torso (14) provided with a pair of arms (22) articulately mounted for relative movement thereto upward toward the plane of the shoulders by centrifugal force, as the upper torso is rotated relative to a lower torso (16) upon which it is mounted, by means of a thumbwheel (64) coacting with a drive means (44) connected between the torsos. The individual arms are also rotatable for 360.degree. about an axis through the shoulders.

  • Patent number: 4620385
Abstract: A pair of rotatable wings are slidably and rotatably received and secured on the axle of a bracket carried by a water fowl decoy to extend laterally outward from the decoy body. The wings have a series of circumferentially spaced blades which are shaped to cause rotation of the wings when subjected to a slight breeze and produce an alternating visual signal upon rotation. The bracket may be releasably attached to the decoy or molded into the decoy body during manufacture.

  • Patent number: 4618330
Abstract: An amusement toy includes a first member which is cylindrical in shape and is located within a housing. This first member is capable of rotating on the housing. A second elongated member is located within the center of the cylindrical shaped first member and moves up and down within the first member. A first gear located on the first member engages a connecting gear which in turn engages a gear located on the second member so as to transfer linear motion of the second member into rotational motion of the first member. Rotation of the first member transferred to at least one output member whereby the output member is rotated ultimately in response to linear motion of the second member.
