Patent number: 10064394Abstract: A composite material for production of a beehive for apiculture use, and its manufacturing process. This composite material is made of cork and ligneous material, polymers, and optionally at least one of a fire retardant and UV protector. The percentage of polymer in the composite varies between 10% and 75% and the blend of the granulated cork with the ligneous material between 25% and 90%. The material to be used must have a particle size which permit its use in extrusion and injection production lines, because the molding of the beehives is made through one of these processes. The beehive is composed by stand (A), sidewalls (H), front and rear walls (I), inner cover (E) and outer cover (F), and can be assembled in three different ways: traditional, in ramp and in step.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2014Date of Patent: September 4, 2018Inventors: Gil Cesar Santos, Carla Maria Batista Goncalves

Patent number: 5575703Abstract: A solar-powered ventilation module is designed to be inserted between an existing standard beehive and its existing standard cover. The module houses electrical components of the invention and acts as a plenum. A thermostat exposed to the beehive interior air controls a fan when the air temperature inside the beehive exceeds a predetermined limit (preferably about 75.degree..+-.5.degree. F.). The fan, preferably with a capacity of 30 to 40 cfm, is controlled by the thermostat and powered by a photovoltaic solar panel either directly or by a battery recharged by a solar panel. The fan-induced ventilation helps control temperature, humidity and carbon dioxide level within the hive. A screen prevents bees from passing through the fan. Warm air is exhausted from the hive and vented to the ambient air through a plurality of vents in the side wall of the module, while cooler ambient air is drawn into the beehive through existing hive openings.Type: GrantFiled: March 15, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Inventor: Gary D.
