  • Patent number: 11540494
Abstract: A beehive excluder, for preventing rodent and other animal intrusion, is configured to be coupled to the opening of a beehive and includes a body defining a first upper and second lower row of openings into a beehive. Each opening of each row is configured to allow the bees to land and proceed through the opening without traversing a vertical abutment. The body includes a dividing ridge extending the excluder's width, wherein a plurality of openings include vertical sidewalls extending from the dividing ridge and sloping toward the interior of the beehive. The body is a one piece molded structure and further includes clip members configured to couple the excluder to the beehive, wherein the clip members are formed by a plurality of cantilevered extension members extending into the beehive opening with upwardly extending detent members on distal ends thereof.

  • Publication number: 20120302131
Abstract: This invention discloses a bee nest for protecting bees from the environment. The bee nest has desiccating and insulating properties, as well as properties that repulse and deter varrora destructor mites. The bee nest comprises a housing having a first open end and a second open end. The first open end is covered by a first end plate which has ventilation means for the housing. A second end plate encloses the second end. Within the housing, there are a plurality of elongate conduits or tubes. Surrounding the plurality of elongate conduits is filler medium, such as crushed volcanic rock filler. Optionally essential oils to deter mites are distributed on the rock filler.

  • Patent number: 6306196
Abstract: Disclosed is a sintered Ti-based material product derived from injection molding of a powder material. The outer layer region of the product comprises a lower amount of carbon than the inner layer region of the same. The inner layer region comprises a Ti-based carbide which has an average grain size of not less than 1 &mgr;m and which is dispersed in the inner structure to have an area fraction of not less than 0.1% to not more than 20%. The outer layer region comprises a lower amount of Ti-based carbide than the inner layer region. There can be observed an area fraction of less than 0.1% of the Ti-based carbide at the surface of the sintered Ti-based material product.

  • Patent number: 5628671
Abstract: An observation hive includes a main frame including bottom and side frame members and glass front and rear walls which cooperate to define an open-top chamber in which two honeycomb frames are removably mounted. Front and rear top frame members interconnect the upper ends of the side frame members and respectively seat against the outer surfaces of the glass walls. A cover overlies the top and side frame members to close the chamber and has a depending insert portion which substantially completely occupies the portion of the chamber extending above the bottom edges of the top frame members so that bees cannot enter this space and be unobserved. Ventilation holes are formed vertically through the cover and the bottom frame member to allow vertical flow of air through the chamber, each ventilation opening being screened at its upper and lower ends. The bottom frame member is seated on pedestals to provide a clearance space therebeneath.

  • Patent number: 5069651
Abstract: A device for removing parasites from honey bees within a hive comprises a frame adapted to be fitted over the top of the hive in the place of the lid normally kept on the hive. The frame includes a passageway which is connected to a conduit extending down to the bottom opening of the hive. A spout fits over the bottom opening of the hive. A heating element heats the air which is drawn through the apparatus by a fan located therein. The air is circulated from the top of the hive through the apparatus where it is heated and then is forced into the bottom of the hive through the inlet opening. The temperature is raised to a level which will rid the bees of the parasites, but which can be tolerated by the bees.
