  • Patent number: 11780044
Abstract: A conveyor belt sanding assembly includes a panel is comprised of a rigid material. A pair of clips is each coupled to the panel and each of the clips releasably engages a paddle of a mail sorting machine thereby mounting the panel to the paddle. A sheet of sand paper is bonded to the panel and the sheet of sand paper is positioned on an opposing surface of the panel with respect to the clips. In this way the sheet of sand paper is directed toward the conveyor belt of the mail sorting machine. The sand paper abrades the conveyor belt when the paddle is moved against the conveyor belt to enhance the capacity of the conveyor belt to frictionally engage mail that is being sorted by the mail sorting machine.

The polished baseboard is transported further upwards, being clamped between rollers of the discharging device.

Abstract: A polishing apparatus includes a lapping tape for polishing a surface of a magnetic disc, a tape supply unit for supplying the lapping tape, a varnisher roller for pressing the lapping tape onto the surface of the magnetic disc, and a pressing unit for pressing the lapping tape to the surface of the magnetic disc by way of the varnisher roller. The pressing unit is constituted by a swing lever having the varnisher roller at one end portion, and a balance adjusting unit. The balance adjusting unit sets the pressing force to zero by establishing the balance of the swing lever, and then breaks the balance so as to press the lapping tape to the surface of the magnetic disc by way of the varnisher roller with a desired pressing force.

Abstract: A machine for grinding cylindrical bearing surfaces on parts, in particular journals and/or crank pins on crankshafts, using an abrasive belt, includes a support on which three abrasive belt clamping members are mounted in a triangle and mobile in directions that converge toward the axis of the bearing surface to be ground. Each clamping member carries at least one applicator shoe conformed to press the abrasive belt against the bearing surface along a surface essentially limited to a generatrix parallel to the axis of the bearing surface. The shoe is preferably made from an elastomer having a Shore hardness at most equal to 100 and has a cylindrically curved applicator surface with a radius of curvature less than the radius of curvature of the bearing surface.

Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus for grinding spherical objects into an exact spherical shape. The sphere-reshaping apparatus comprises a grinding section equipped with means for grinding spherical objects, an inlet section equipped with means for feeding spherical objects to the grinding section and an outlet section equipped with means for taking out reshaped spherical objects from the grinding section. The inlet section, grinding section and outlet section communicate by transporting means. The transporting means comprises an endless carrier belt having a series of apertures made for accepting spherical objects and a drive for driving the endless carrier belt. In the grinding section an endless grinding belt runs parallel with the endless carrier belt in same or counter direction relative to the endless carrier belt at such a speed that causes spherical objects to rub on the grinding belt.

Abstract: Apparatus for removing random scratches formed during the polishing of magnetic recording media, and for disposing on the surface of the media a near-circumferential texture which increases the recording reliability of the media while simultaneously reducing its failure rate. The present invention teaches the application of a low unit load force to a pad and polishing tape combination in contact with a rotating and oscillating disk surface to completely remove the random scratches previously formed by a polishing step. The apparatus facilitates the application of a specially designed, extremely fine alumina slurry composition without producing similar size circumferential scratches at the high surface speeds.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for planarizing a microelectronic substrate. In one embodiment, the apparatus can include an elongated, non-continuous polishing pad oriented at an angle relative to the horizontal to allow planarizing liquids and materials removed from the microelectronic substrate to flow off the polishing pad under the force of gravity. Two such polishing pads can be positioned opposite each other in a vertical orientation and can share either a common platen or a common substrate carrier. The polishing pads can be pre-attached to both a supply roll and a take-up roll to form a cartridge which can be easily removed from the apparatus and replaced with another cartridge.
