    Abstract: A skate blade sharpening system retains a skate blade in a sharpening position whose centerline has a first location relative to a first visual reference feature. A motor-driven rotating shaft has a wheel-mounting location for mounting a grinding wheel for sharpening operation. The shaft accepts an alignment wheel at the wheel-mounting location during an alignment, the alignment wheel having a second visual reference feature having a second location relative to a centerline of the grinding wheel when occupying the wheel-mounting location. An adjustment mechanism moves the shaft transversely during alignment to vary relative position between the wheel-mounting location and the sharpening position including an aligned position in which the centerline of the grinding wheel is aligned with the centerline of the sharpening position, the aligned position being indicated by alignment of the first visual reference feature with the second visual reference feature during alignment.

The plurality of roller members are attached to a lower portion of the body adjacent the second end where the plurality of roller members are configured to allow the body to roll in a direction selected from the group consisting of sideways and in an arc on the honing surface causing the cutting edge of the tool to move parallel to the honing surface instead of perpendicular to the honing surface.

    Abstract: A sharpening device for the blade of a tool such as a chisel or plane is in two parts. The first is a jig into which the blade is inserted with its tapered end projecting some distance beyond the jig. This distance is related to the angle to which the blade is to be sharpened. The second part is a marked reference member which is brought into a position alongside the jig. The blade is advanced through the jig until its tip reaches a marking on the reference member corresponding to the required sharpening angle for the tool. The tool is then clamped in the jig. The jig incorporates a roller which rolls on the sharpening stone while the tapered tip of the blade is sharpened by contact with the stone.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for honing, sharpening or grinding a curved peripheral cutting surface of a slicer blade are provided. Included is the use of one of a set of interchangeable cams that generally follows the curved shape of the blade cutting surface, whether same has a constant radius or varying radii. The honing is accomplished off-line of the slicer equipment, and the movement of two honing or grinding wheels is closely controlled so as to provide honed or ground cutting edges which are of substantially uniform width throughout their respective peripheries. The two honing or grinding wheels operate independently of each other on opposing edges of the blade, a large blade load area is provided therebetween, precision gib adjustments are provided between the wheel and the cam follower, and a single tool is needed to make adjustments of the apparatus.

    Abstract: A tool guide for sharpening woodcarving and lathe tools comprises a holder frame having an adjustable clamping member for clamping a portion of a tool against an inner surface thereof, and an adjustable foot member removably connected to the holder frame by a downwardly extending central rod for engaging a work surface which is coplanar with or parallel to a nearby abrasive sharpening surface. The foot member includes an arcuate surface which may be arranged to engage the work surface for sharpening tools having a U-shaped cutting edge profile, and a pair of arc ends which may be arranged to engage the work surface by inverting the foot member for sharpening tools having a straight cutting edge profile. A pair of side rods are spaced on opposite sides of the central rod, whereby distal ends of the side rods and central rod define an angular profile for sharpening tools having a V-shaped cutting edge when the foot member is removed.

A spring operatively connects the shanks toward each other, biasing the glass-gripping end portions of the shanks toward each other.
