Abstract: A chip collecting apparatus for a tip dresser of the present invention has a sideways-mounted dresser main body and a chip pickup case mounted at the end of the dresser main body. Chips generated during dressing electrode tips are picked up in the case and discharged from the chip discharge port opened under the case into a chip collection vessel. A pair of opposite electrode tips held at the ends of a welding gun advances horizontally from the front. Since chip inserting surfaces of the chip pickup case, in which chip insertion ports for receiving the electrode tips are opened, are formed in a wedge shape extending from the front end to the rear end with respect to the advancing direction of the welding gun, the electrode tips can be smoothly guided to the chip insertion ports without unnecessarily increasing the space between the electrode tips.

  • Patent number: 6237657
Abstract: A device for cutting a workpiece by means of a rotatingly driven tool bit has a suction hood surrounding the tool bit in annular manner with a through-opening for the tool bit to pass through. The suction hood forms a suction duct open to the tool bit which is limited by an outer wall. At least a part of the outer wall is curved in a perpendicular plane in the form of a parabola, and the focal point of the parabola lies beneath the workpiece engagement surface formed by the suction hood. Because of this parabola shape, chips thrown by the tool bit against the outer wall are reflected essentially parallel to the workpiece engagement surface and thus do not escape up through the through-opening.

  • Patent number: 5628678
Abstract: A shaft sanding device including a main housing. A motor is secured within the main housing. The motor is coupled with a power source. A drive roller is secured within the main housing. The drive roller has a drive arm extending outwardly therefrom to couple with the motor. A first idle roller is secured within the main housing opposed from the drive roller. In association with the first idle roller is a second idle roller having a resilient arm rotatably coupled therewith. The resilient arm is pivotally coupled to the main housing adjacent to the motor secured therein. The resilient arm biases the second idle roller away from the main housing. A sand paper belt is disposed around the drive roller, the first idle roller, and the second idle roller.

  • Patent number: 5620361
Abstract: Sanding accessory for a conventional belt sander or the like, enabling manually held workpieces to be sanded to a super-smooth finish without rounding off their edges. A workpiece held by hand sideways against a fence parallel to the direction of travel of the belt moves forward by belt friction to a crosswise face of the fence and is retained there as the fence reciprocates laterally across the belt and back, sanding the workpiece evenly and distributing the belt wear uniformly over substantially its entire abrasive surface.

  • Patent number: 5591075
Abstract: A grinding machine includes a casing with a top plate unit, two grinding units installed on the top plate unit, and a driving unit for activating the grinding units. The top plate unit has a dust inlet slot formed therethrough so as to permit dropping of dust from the corresponding grinding unit into the dust inlet slot. The casing has two side chambers communicated with the dust inlet slots, and a middle chamber which is located between the side chambers and which receives a filtering unit therein. A dust-collecting chamber is located in a bottom portion of the casing and is communicated with the side chambers and the middle chamber. An exhaust fan unit is disposed in the middle chamber and is located over the filtering unit to draw dust from the dust-collecting chamber in order to discharge the same from the casing.

  • Patent number: 5582225
Abstract: The invention is a workbench consisting of a top working surface containing a rows and columns of holes that allow dust and chips to fall and be drawn through where they land in a plenum below the surface. The top surface and the plenum are supported by a rectangular frame that includes four legs and a shelf between the plenum and the bottom of the legs. The shelf supports a doorless cabinet that includes areas for storing tools and supplies. The plenum slopes to a point containing an off center aperture which is connected through an adapter to a vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner has a bifurcated input manifold with gate valves which allows the user to select between applying the vacuum to the plenum or applying the vacuum to a hose containing a vacuum cleaning tool where waste not entering the surface apertures will be removed from the top work surface.

  • Patent number: 5549506
Abstract: Apparatus for supporting and containing a dental prosthesis during the micro-etching thereof is disclosed. The apparatus includes a framework, a holding mechanism carried by the framework for holding the prosthesis in a position which permits micro-etching, and a flexible hood, for example, a disposable plastic bag, which has an open end sized to slidably receive the framework into the hood while holding the prosthesis. The open end is sealable while the framework is so received, and the hood is transparent to permit viewing of the prosthesis within the hood. The hood is sliceable with a knife edge to provide a small slit which permits the tip of a micro-etching tool to extend into the hood. Alternately, the hood may be pre-slit for the same purpose.

  • Patent number: 5518442
Abstract: A pad sander skirt which flares out over the periphery of the sanding pad and which is coupled to a lower housing so that it swivels about the body of the sander. The skirt and lower housing can be selectively swivelled in a rotational manner to a position desired by the user. A further sander improvement disclosed relates to the protection of a user's hand. Palm-grip random orbit sanders are sometimes configured so that the sanding pad may begin spinning at high speed when the sander is lifted off of the work. To this end, the present application discloses a protective skirt which flares out over the periphery of the pad in a palm-grip random orbit sander. Also disclosed is an improved dust collection system comprising a filter housing formed of a rigid porous material for entrapping dust.

  • Patent number: 5463816
Abstract: A portable planer for use by a user to cut chips or material from a workpiece is disclosed. The portable planer includes a chip deflector movably attached to a housing of the portable planer. The nozzle can be oriented with respect to the housing such that chips expelled from the portable planer are directed away from the user and downwardly toward a floor. Alternatively, the chip deflector can be reoriented with respect to the housing so that a collector bag or vacuum hose can be attached to the nozzle whereby chips are collected in an enclosed container rather than being freely blown. Ideally, the nozzle is swivelably attached to the housing to permit the selected positioning of the nozzle relative to the housing.
