Coiled Tool Patents (Class 451/492)
  • Patent number: 10766116
Abstract: A hand-held sanding device for sanding a work piece. The sanding device includes a frame adapted for a manual grip and a sanding material provided within the frame for movement relative to the frame. The sanding material forms a sanding surface for the device. The sanding material moves relative to the frame through contact between the sanding surface and the work piece.

  • Patent number: 8834235
Abstract: A flexible sanding apparatus includes a thin, relatively flat spring member and one or more coil spring members coupled to a first side of the flat spring member along a length of the flat spring member. A sanding surface may be coupled to a second side of the flat spring member. The flat spring member and the coil spring members may be elongated members coupled together lengthwise. The coil spring member may be a closed coil spring member that allows concave flexing of the sanding surface and inhibits convex flexing of the sanding surface.

  • Patent number: 5643063
Abstract: A carrier is connected to the plunger for reciprocating therewith; the carrier is of inverted U-shape defining a recess open at its bottom. A holder is pivotally mounted to the carrier for swinging movement back and forth between a first position wherein the holder is substantially nested within the recess in the carrier and a second position wherein a substantial portion of the holder extends out of and away from the carrier recess. The holder is also of inverted U-shape defining a cavity for receiving a portion of a contour sanding member. Detent elements on the carrier compress the holder when the latter is in its first position thereby to impart a clamping force to a contour sanding member received within the cavity of the holder. A manually operated ejection member mounted on the tool housing engages the holder for moving the same from its first position to its second position.

  • Patent number: 5529529
Abstract: An apparatus for microfinishing an interior cylindrical surface. The apparatus includes a mechanism which holds and rotates the workpiece about an axis. A tool, having radially directed work areas, is positioned within the workpiece and causes a strip of abrasive sheet material, positioned over the work areas, to engage the rotating workpiece. With the abrasive sheet material engaging the rotating workpiece, the tool is axially oscillated.

  • Patent number: 5359818
Abstract: A hand tool for the use in sanding, polishing or finishing of articles of manufacture including wood, plastic and metal articles. A length of abrasive material, such as sandpaper or emery cloth, is secured to the tool with a portion of the length of abrasive material retained in a storage area. The abrasive material is secured to an extended blade which may be sized and shaped as required. The blade may include ridges or nodules to retain the abrasive material in position on the blade while the tool is being used. A securing member slides over the blade and the abrasive material to frictionally secure the abrasive material to the tool. As required, new abrasive material may be pulled from the storage portion and secured to the blade.
